The University of Texas Permian Basin's Psychology Department welcomes applications for the position of Counselor in the University Mental Health and Wellness Center and Lecturer in Psychology

Salary Range

$58,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing cognitive-behavioral therapy and other counseling services to students. The University's Counseling Services promote students' personal development and psychological well-being. Our programs include individual and group counseling, outreach programming, training, consultation, crisis intervention and assessment.

  • Provide individual, group, or couples counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal health issues by adhering to a brief psychotherapy model that is time sensitive and goal oriented.

  • Refer students to appropriate community resources.

  • Administer and interpret inventories and tests given to students in conjunction with individual or group counseling.

  • Provide crisis intervention with students and support for other involved persons.

  • Consult with the director(s) and other staff regularly regarding case management issues.

  • Provide counseling and/or information and referral services to faculty and staff

  • Make appropriate referrals.

  • Non-tenure track, full-time teaching position on a 9-month contract.

  • Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate for-credit and dual credit courses

  • Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.

  • Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and use appropriate technology.

  • Student course evaluations are to be completed in each course.

  • Abide by deadlines and processes for submitting grades.

  • Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.

  • Participate in course/laboratory revisions and curriculum development, as assigned.

  • Work with other faculty and staff to advance the program.

  • Attending department, college, and university faculty meetings.

  • Attend convocations, commencement exercises, recruitment activities, and community meetings

Required Qualifications

1.Master's degree in counselor or psychology related field

2.Licensure as LPC or LPC-A

Preferred Qualifications

1.Licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor

2.Experience providing counseling at a University Counseling Center

Schedule

Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
