I. Primary Responsibilities:

1.Primary Counselor: Serve as primary residential counselor for specified number of residents as requested by supervisor and manage all aspects of care from admission to discharge.

2.Treatment Planning: Assess and document needs assessments, negotiate treatment plans, document progress reviews, and complete program notes as part of continuous quality management activities.

3.Community Living: Collaborate with all treating psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, other professionals and paraprofessionals whether internal or external.

4.Nutrition: State and understanding of the reciprocal impact that exists between substance use disorder, mental health disorders, and healthy nutrition.

5.Medications: Monitor residents' medication refills, documentation of medication administration and changes in medication orders, assist with attending appointments, and safe storage of medications.

6.Groups: Lead recovery-oriented groups of a psychoeducational and process-oriented nature. Ensure implementation of proper, best-practice approaches to group development.

7.Continuity of Care: Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and collaborate with other providers to enhance potential successful treatment episode. Provide outreach as designated to community-based residents.

Specialty Responsibilities:

1.Have a working knowledge of the various models and theories of counseling interventions and clinical approaches when working with persons who present with a substance use disorder.

2.Possess a working knowledge of statistical information regarding the etiology and prevalence of substance use disorders in the community, state, and nation.

3.Possess a working knowledge of the culturally diverse populations seeking assistance in the program.

4.Possess a fundamental understanding of the pharmacological properties and effects of psychoactive substances.

5.Possess an understanding of the value of the use of medications in the treatment of substance use disorders and mental health disorders. This includes having a working knowledge of the three FDA-approved medications in the treatment of opioid use disorders, and the various medications used in the treatment of alcohol use disorder, and other use disorders.

6.Possess a working knowledge of the dynamics of substance use disorders and the various options available for achieving a stable recovery.

7.Possess a working knowledge of the various self-help options available to persons seeking support for their recovery efforts.

II. Position Qualifications:

Education/Licensing:

Required:

1.Bachelor's degree; preferably in the field of substance use disorder intervention and prevention, psychology, or human services.

2.Can comply with regulations for DMH, HUD, DSAS and DPH MAP Certification.

3.Must be able to submit to a CORI (Criminal Offender Background Check) and a DCF/CPS (Department of Families Adam Walsh/Child Protective Services background check) and meet and sustain agency standards for qualification.

4.Must have a current valid US-issued driver's license and a registered, inspected, and insured automobile for work related purposes including transporting clients in a personal vehicle [or a company vehicle.]

5.CPR, First Aid, CPI certifications.

Preferred:

1.May possess certification as a alcohol and drug counselor (CADAC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, level II (LDAC II)

Skills/Experience:

Required:

1.Can write behaviorally stated progress notes.

2.The ability to observe, document, teach and respond to mental and physical health, as well as other needs of consumers such as community living skills, medication education, crisis intervention, etc.

Preferred:

1.Bilingual preferred

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to be in a standing position for extended periods of time.

Must be able to move about the space periodically during the shift
