Position Description

The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor will provide clinical services for Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor will provide counseling services to clients including completion of assessments, treatment planning, progress reports, treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries. Counselor will also conduct group counseling, along with individual client meetings. Counselor will also document concise and timely reports of all clinically related duties and work with treatment team to ensure client needs are addressed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts group counseling sessions with clients.

  • Communicates key information and collaborates regularly with Community Supervision Officers.

  • Tracks compliance with drug and alcohol testing.

  • Participates in staffing case with supervisors, peers, Community Supervision Officers, and the courts.

  • Maintains appropriate entries in the electronic systems.

  • Operates office equipment, computers, phones, etc., necessary for the work.

  • Completes documentation of daily work activities in relevant databases.

  • Provides case consultation to Community Supervision Officers regarding clients with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.

  • Monitors deadlines to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with policy, grant standards, funding and licensure requirements, special conditions of community supervision, and Community Justice Assistance Division (CJAD) general and substance abuse standards.

  • Participates in work groups as necessary.

  • Provides group instruction to clients.

  • Contribute to and help create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Psychological or Social Work field from an accredited college or university.

Licensure:

  • Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).

  • Must have a valid Texas Class C Automobile Operator's License or Texas Identification Card.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must meet the minimum requirements for access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) information.

General Information

ONE CERTIFIED ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT AND LICENSE WILL BE REQUIRED

AT TIME OF HIRE.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-time | 40 hours per week

  • 5 days per week | Hours will range between: 8:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M.

  • Flexibility in work schedule is required and determined by program needs.

  • Work overtime as required.

Salary:

  • $4,187.73 - $4,855.07 Monthly

  • Commensurate with experience

  • Based on 26 Pay Periods

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. Travel between HCCSCD locations or off-site locations for meetings, training, group coverage, etc. is required as needed.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
