Job Description:

Designs and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of elementary school students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:

  • -- Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.
  • -- Manage a counseling program in order to encourage and support academic achievement and personal/social development.
  • -- Assist in coordinating district and state testing programs.
  • -- Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
  • -- Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
  • -- Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs. Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their education.
  • -- Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
  • -- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  • -- Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, etc.
  • -- Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.
  • -- Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
  • -- Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual counseling.
  • -- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • -- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
  • -- Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.
  • -- Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social needs.
  • -- Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.

Certifications:

Position Salary Schedule Eligibility:

Hard to Hire

Licensed position salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules; General, Hard to Hire, and Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire. DCSD will award up to 7 years of previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire. Click HERE to view the current DCSD Licensed Salary Schedules*.

  • *All salary amounts listed on the schedules are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
