Cheyney University is seeking a Tenure-track Counselor.   The Counselor is responsible for providing mental health and wellness services for students. Specifically, the Counselor is responsible for providing generalist mental health services, including the provision of short-term, developmentally oriented individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, walk-in services, consultation, and educational/preventative outreach programming. The Counselor will provide a coordinated and comprehensive system of psychological wellness services aimed at maximizing students' intellectual development, success, and quality of life.  The Counselor must be knowledgeable of current counseling theories and techniques most effectively utilized in higher education settings, must be able to demonstrate a high level of cultural competency, be adept at working with students from traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented backgrounds, and demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to student development. In addition, the Counselor will review students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to establish and communicate accommodation plans for individual students to relevant campus stakeholders.

This position is a full-time, nine-month, non-teaching, faculty position with primary responsibilities in Student Affairs. The position also has some dual reporting responsibilities to Academic Affairs as part of the Social and Behavioral Sciences department. The Counselor is expected to be an active member within the Division of Student Affairs and represents the Student Success and Wellness unit at various events including collaboration with colleagues across the institution to provide mental health programming and education.

The Counselor must possess excellent communication skills and be able to communicate with diverse audiences.

The Counselor works 35 hours per week, providing essential coverage Monday through Friday, 11:00 A.M.  to 7:00 P.M, as well as crisis intervention hours.  Hours are subject to adjustment for additional evening and weekend coverage.  REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and/or Experience:

  • Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to be considered: 

  • be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of PA or eligible for licensure within the next 30 days,

  • be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of PA or eligible for licensure within the next 30 days,

  • have graduated from a CACREP or CSWE accredited master's program, or 

  • be a Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist in the State of PA, 

  • have obtained NBCC certification (NCC).

  • Applicants must have at least three years of clinical experience and counseling with a similar population and/or in a higher education setting.

  • Experience providing individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and psychological assessment is required.

  • Candidates must have demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic, racial/ethnic, and LGBTQ backgrounds, including knowledge and sensitivity about multicultural issues.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and/or Experience:

  • It is preferred that applicants will meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • A Ph.D. in counseling or clinical psychology, Psy.D. from an A.P.A. approved program, 

  • An E.D. in counseling or related program 

  • A D.S.W. OR,

  • Be a Licensed master's level counselor with 5 years of higher education clinical/counseling experience.

  • Should include a license in PA; license in Delaware and/or surrounding states preferable.

  • Experience in substance abuse and/or Title IX.

  • Experience in coordinating campus-wide mental health education programs.

  • A pre-doctoral internship and/or post-doctoral fellowship in a university or higher education counseling center.

  • Five or more years of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) providing direct clinical services to adolescents/young adults or adults with moderate/high acuity and diversity of mental health needs.

  • Completion of a supervised field placement as part of the requirement for the master's or specialist degree that provided clinical assessment and intervention experiences, preferably with a college-age population.
    8.Familiarity with ADA rules and regulations including providing Accessibility/Disability                Support Services.
