Job Description:

CWC counselors support the academic success and retention of students by providing support with mental health and developmental concerns through short term counseling, referrals to community resources, crisis management, and consultation to the Augsburg Community. This position is benefits-eligible, holds a 0.75 FTE, and works 40 hours per week for nine (9) months during the academic year.


  • Short term mental health counseling and crisis intervention.

  • Referral guidance.

  • Client documentation.

  • Consultative services to faculty, staff and parents.

  • Staff meetings and case consultations.

  • Participation in campus and community events and outreach efforts related to mental health and wellness.



  • Master's degree or higher in counseling, psychology, social work or marriage and family therapy required.

  • Current MN license in field of practice required.

  • Strong clinical multicultural competencies and experience working with a diverse community in mental health services required.

  • Demonstrated experience counseling male-identified clients, including knowledge of issues relevant to male-identified individuals.

  • Knowledge of issues relevant to college-student populations.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently required.

  • Demonstrated organizational abilities, especially ability to maintain client records required.

  • Desire to work in an academic setting and support the mission of the University.

  • One year or more of professional experience with higher education experience preferred.

  • Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise.

  • Ability to lead/teach and mentor others.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment; and work independently with little supervision.

  • Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, understanding.

  • Ability to show initiative; organize workflow; manage one or more projects; and handle frequent interruptions.


  • One year or more of professional experience with higher education experience preferred.

  • Independent license preferred.

The Huss Center for Recovery is an innovative treatment program for adult men and women with co-occurring chemical dependency issues and mental illness. The program offers a full spectrum of services including inpatient, intensive outpatient, continuing care and concerned persons group. Our person-centered treatment services provide an integrated, interdisciplinary approach that links psychological, biological, and social factors to assist people in the process of recovery. We are offering an INTERNSHIP to students enrolled in Alcohol and Drug Counseling Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degree programs at an MI/CD program. This is an unpaid internship that involves a collaboration between the school, the student and the supervisor at Huss. Objective: The primary objective of the internship is to observe and then practice the twelve core functional skills required of an Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Some experiences will include: * Observing Alcohol & Drug Counselors as they provide direct clinical support to clients * Working with a diverse population and participating on a multi-disciplinary team that provides individual and group counseling * Learning how to prepare reports and documentation for reimbursement of services Schedule: Typical schedules occur Sunday – Saturday, 8:00am – 4:30pm or 4:30pm - 10:00pm. Scheduling is flexible and is based upon the needs of the student and availability of site supervisors. Responsibilities: * Attend New Hire Orientation * Respect and follow HIPAA and Vulnerable Adult reporting procedures * Attend weekly supervision meetings with academic approved supervisor * Incorporate constructive feedback into daily practice * Be open to learning about the complexities and stigma associated with mental illness and addiction * Be able to identify how certain attitudes, beliefs and values of the practitioner may affect service delivery * Attend and participate in group supervision meetings, trainings, and staff meetings Qualifications * Current enrollment in an accredited Associate's, Bachelor's and/or Master's degree program in Alcohol & Drug Counseling * Ability to communicate observations, questions, and/or concerns to task supervisor, site supervisor, and field instructor as needed Beginning November 1, 2018 People Incorporated grounds will be tobacco free to promote health and wellness for the individuals we serve and for our employees.
