JOB TITLE: High School Counselor
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
FTE: .75 FTE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following requirements and responsibilities satisfactorily. Counseling
Provide individual counseling for student/staff/parents.
Provide group counseling for student/staff/parents
Provide behavioral and/or emotional support to individuals or group
Assist students, parents, and staff in resolving individual or group conflict
Counsel with parents regarding student academic, social or emotional progress
Collect and analyze post graduate survey
Participate in professional growth activities.

Referral:
Coordinate referrals to district psychologist
Initial referral to community agencies
Contact individuals or agencies to gain or provide information

Appraisal:
Provide individual/group testing
Coordinate district testing program
Administer tests
Interpret test scores to students, staff, parents

Information/Instruction:
Teach affective skills
Provide parent education/information
Provide individual/group parent, staff guidance
Provide staff in-service
Provide individual group orientation to students/parents transition to next grade or educational level
Maintain newsletters/media contact
Prepare staffing reports
Coordinate home instruction/work with home instructor
Write letters of recommendation
Provide information to students and their parents regarding career opportunity, career planning, higher education, and financial aid
Assist in the developing and adjusting of master schedule
See that students are scheduled for appropriate classes

Planning, Placement and Follow-up
Participate in building screening committee/multi-disciplinary team meetings
Coordinator/assist in developing appropriate education for special needs students
Observe student's classroom behavior
Schedule and/or provide orientation to new students
Check credits and update competency requirements
Observe in classrooms to obtain curriculum information
Collect information on withdrawn students

Records
Review records for new students/transfer students
Review student records for placement (i.e. TEE, special education, etc.)
Coordinate student progress reports
Implement daily home work assignment sheets

Evaluation
Design system to measure student outcomes related to guidance and counseling program
Collect and analyze perceptions regarding guidance program
Maintain time/activity log
Participate in guidance department meetings
Develop department job targets/goals

Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.
Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
