Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking a Counselor that is responsible for counseling students to develop fully each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities; plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling/guidance program based on the defined needs of the students served; support the school's education programs and help promote the school's educational goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with and maintains individual folders on each student with pertinent information necessary to properly guide the students.

  • Schedules conferences with teachers of students each year for the purpose of reviewing and making necessary and desirable adjustments.

  • Counsel individuals and small groups of students with presenting needs/concerns.

  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.

  • Coordinate with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.

  • Use an effective process for assisting students and others to use special programs and services.

  • Assist students in course selection and manage graduation requirements.

  • Present the school comprehensive guidance curriculum.

  • Assists in grouping and scheduling students.

  • Assists in in-service education for teachers in the guidance program.

  • Administers individual tests upon demand and/or when the counselor deems it necessary as a part of the counseling educational process.

  • Interprets results of tests (individual and group) to students, parents and professional personnel.

  • Explains the role of counselors to appropriate agencies, the community, and to school staff members.

  • Participates in research programs related to students' needs and in evaluating how well school guidance and counseling services are meeting these needs.

  • Assists in the preparation of written reports that are required by the local school system and/or the Missouri Education Agency.

  • Assists in helping the students to better understand themselves, their community and their parents.

  • Works toward improving morale and aids in teaching by helping teachers to know and better understand the student.

  • Assists the student in learning to make wise decisions, which will affect the student's future.

  • Assists in the arrangement of teacher parent conferences and shall further assist the parents in an understanding of their children's aptitudes, abilities, interest, attitudes, and development as related to educational planning and growth.

  • Assists students with social and academic problems, such as, problems evidenced by excessive absences, problems as a result of failing grades, delinquency, disciplinary reports, and drug and health problems.

Assists in orientation programs.

  • Shall be responsible for classroom guidance activities.

  • Assists in determining curricular needs and meeting those needs.

  • Participates in admissions, review, and dismissal (ARD) meeting when appropriate.

  • Participates in development of standardized testing program.

  • Coordinates administration of standardized tests.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or building principal.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

  • Ability to exercise judgment in decision-making.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in guidance and counseling.

  • A valid Missouri counseling certificate.

  • Three years' experience.

Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs., such as lifting files and paper.
