University of Phoenix College of Social Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology, human services and counseling designed to help students acquire a deeper understanding of human behavior and prepare them to become social heroes in their communities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social science careers are expected to grow up to 29 percent between 2012 and 2022. The College of Social Sciences prepares for these opportunities with a combination of firsthand knowledge and career-relevant coursework. Our curriculum is developed based on industry standards to ensure the coursework aligns with employer needs. We work directly with the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) to ensure that our programs fill skills gaps in social science professions.

Responsibilities

  • As a faculty member you'll be challenged with adding your professional expertise to instruct a curriculum which is centrally developed with specific learning objectives.

  • Provide timely and detailed feedback on a weekly basis and offer student support via classroom, phone, and email.

  • Utilize classroom learning system technology (provided by university), the Internet, and Microsoft Office software.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

MUST meet one of the numbered pathways below, as well as any applicable clarifications stated, (including education, area of study and previous work experience, including minimum number of years and types of experience):

  • Doctorate degree in Counseling, and at least 3 credit hours in psychopharmacology, and a minimum of (3) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years.

  • Doctorate in a related field and 18 graduate credits in counseling, and at least 3 credit hours in psychopharmacology, and a minimum of (3) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years.

Doctoral Clarification: Applicable professional experience can be derived from any combination of: (a) Post-secondary teaching of Psychopharmacology, (b) Practitioner counseling experience in a clinical setting, (c) Substantive documented research or scholarship experience in counseling current within the last 5 years.

OR

  • Master's degree in Counseling, and at least 3 graduate credit hours in psychopharmacology and a minimum of (5) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years, and demonstration of professional identity through additional professional organization service, published research, professional presentations, and/or other scholarly activities within the last 7 years.

  • Master's in a related field and 18 graduate credits in counseling, and at least 3 graduate credit hours in Psychopharmacology, and a minimum of (5) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years, and demonstration of professional identity through additional professional organization service, published research, professional presentations, and/or other scholarly activities within the last 7 years.

Master's Clarification:

Faculty must have a minimum of (2) years' post licensure experience.

REQUIRED CREDENTIAL:

Current clinical licensing or certification in Counseling, School Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or Psychiatric Medicine.

If the faculty member/candidate has a Doctorate in Counselor Education, a current National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification or other national certification (e.g., National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC), or other national certification is acceptable.

ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATIONS:

Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Acceptable professional positions/professional responsibilities can include but are not limited to: Documented experience related to psychopharmacology in a clinical setting, and/or documented experience evaluating medication compliance.

Core counselor education program faculty have earned doctoral degrees in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of 1 full academic year before July 1, 2013.
