High school graduate or equivalent with business courses. Three years administrative experience or combination of experience and/or training. Standard office machines and computer skills.

Preferred

College or business school courses. More than three years experience, with part at SRSU or other related experience.

Spanish speaking/writing is a plus. Word processing, database, and spreadsheet computer program skills.

Primary Responsibilities

Summary

Function: Provides skilled administrative assistance and assumes minor administrative duties within framework of established policies.

Scope: Independently coordinates routine office or departmental clerical work according to established procedures and may process varied, complex or large volumes of material.

Duties

Essential: Performs tasks requiring skill in keyboarding and computer usage; may transcribe varied material from dictation or draft; will type correspondence and email students Accommodation Letters to professors in timely fashion.Will maintain office forms, semester and annual statistical reports, manuscripts, or proposals; composes routine correspondence and complies reports; maintains various records and filing systems, and shreds archival files as requested; handles and maintains confidential information; serves as receptionist; collects mail; makes appointments, maintains schedules and travel arrangements; may assist with new hire paperwork, maintains inventory, and will be responsible for basic budgeting, ordering materials, and requisitions for department and other departments as requested.

May assist in responding to state reports. This position handles all workorders through the Sprocket system and makes flyers and promotional materials. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. The Administrative Assistant is the front face of the office and will be trained to triage persons in crisis, and asked to complete a Mental Health First Aid class.

Non-Essential: Duties unique to the particular department and other duties as assigned.

Supervision

Received: General instructions and work periodically reviewed by department head.

Given: This position will not supervise students.

Working Conditions

Usual: Office conditions; standard hours. Position is Security Sensitive.

Any qualification to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

About SRSU

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.

The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor's degrees as well as master's degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
