Staples is seeking a Counsel level associate to be based in our Framingham, MA office. This position is appropriate for law school graduates (w/ bar certification) with 1 4 years of legal practice who have experience in, or exposure to, employment law matters in a company or law firm environment whether as an attorney or employment law paralegal. This person will be expected to provide legal counseling and advice on federal, state and municipal employment laws, assist in managing single plaintiff litigation, and reviewing and advising on non-compete matters. This role requires close partnership with the Human Resources team, legal department colleagues, and outside counsel. While confident and assertive in driving solutions for the Company, the selected candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and value the importance of building relationships with the Human Resources teams and business leaders. In addition, s/he must be proactive, take initiative and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. He/she must be an excellent communicator and present well both in writing and verbally, whether in an informal setting, a Board meeting or when interfacing with a large group.
Core Practice Areas:
Masters J.D. required.
Licenses Massachusetts Bar or Registered In House Counsel certification.
Minimum 1-4 years-experience in a law firm or in-house, with general exposure/experience in employment law.
Excellent judgment, knowing when to escalate issues to the supervising attorney.
Excellent analytical skills; capable of identifying issues and providing alternative solutions.
Capable of understanding the business of each internal client and willing to self-educate and adapt to changing needs of his/her respective clients' businesses.
Reliable, self-starter with strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively and positively communicate with clients, legal department colleagues, and outside counsel.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
