The Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs, will oversee all production-related legal work for the DreamWorks TV division of NBCUniversal's Digital Enterprises organization. Primary job duties involve negotiating and drafting contracts relating to the production of animated and live action short-form children's content for the DreamWorks TV channels on social media and other digital platforms.


  • Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret contracts and other documents, including primarily agreements relating to the production of "digital first" and "digital derivative" programming.

  • Advise and coordinate with creative executives, production risk attorneys and others to identify and resolve business and legal issues and provide ongoing counsel, advice and support, with a focus on the production of "digital first" programming.

  • Partner with NBCU business executives to discuss and implement best practices and formulate new processes in connection with evolving business needs.

  • Create and update forms.

  • Other matters at the direction of the Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs.


Basic Qualifications

  • JD

  • Member of a state bar in good standing

  • A minimum of 2 years of entertainment and/or intellectual property expertise, with specific experience handling production legal work.

  • Minimum 3 years of law experience either in-house or at a firm

This is an amazing opportunity to play a key, hands-on role in supporting Roku's continued growth by ensuring that the company's business and policy priorities are well represented with U.S. and international regulators and policy makers. As a member of Roku's Legal team, this position will help shape the regulatory and policy landscape in areas that are important to Roku's current business and future success by interacting with regulators, policy makers and influencers inside and outside of government. In addition, this position will collaborate with other members of Roku's Legal team to provide timely, pragmatic and actionable advice regarding the policy implications of Roku's products and services. This position will be responsible for identifying and prioritizing relevant regulatory and policy areas, creating and socializing positions and strategies, and owning the overall development and execution of the company's global government relations, policy formulation and government affairs initiatives. This position reports to the General Counsel and will coordinate with various organizations and individuals across the company (e.g. members of our platform, product, sales, engineering, corporate development and strategy, corporate communications, international and legal teams) to address evolving regulatory and public policy challenges and develop Roku's external narrative around policy issues. Primary Job Responsibilities: * Maintain a comprehensive understanding of legislation, emerging issues, and industry trends in the jurisdictions that impact Roku's current and future business, ensuring that relevant stakeholders throughout the company are informed with analyses of the significance, relevance, and business impact of these developments in a timely manner. * Advise business, product and engineering teams on policy implications during the product development and launch process. * Partner closely with business, product, engineering and corporate teams within Roku to align government affairs and public policy strategies with business needs. * Lead domestic and international policy projects on a wide variety of issues affecting Roku (e.g., net neutrality, privacy and data security, copyright and content protection, patent reform, trade policy, immigration, anti-trust and tax). * Cultivate, maintain and engage trusted relationships directly with elected and appointed officials and their staff members, community leaders, regulatory agencies, industry groups and professional associations to effectively advocate for Roku's policy positions. * Serve as a thought leader and respected representative of Roku, promoting the company's strategic vision, competitive position and policy perspectives externally to further our business objectives. Job Requirements: * JD or LLM degree with excellent academic credentials. * 10+ years of related experience in government relations and public policy, with proven abilities to develop and execute impactful government affairs strategies within the global TMT sector. * Experience within the tech industry and familiarity with Internet technologies, digital media, OTT, advertising technology, Big Data, IOT, and the surrounding domestic and international laws, regulations, policies and industry standards, including regulations and policies established by the FCC, FTC, DOJ, domestic self-regulatory organizations and their international equivalents. * Track record of effective and respected leadership of people and teams in a high growth company. * Proven policy leadership skills and executive presence, with excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills, and the ability to understand and clearly communicate technical issues to policymakers and media. * Comfort with ambiguity and pace, including the ability to assess, synthesize and share disparate and quickly changing information with necessary stakeholders in a clear, timely, actionable manner. * Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with business clients and other legal department members * High ethical standards and integrity and sound judgment. #LI-PP1 Roku Santa Monica CA
