The HR Management Systems Department (10749) is seeking a motivated Software Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
Investigate, design, develop, test, document, and analyze software systems and applications.
Develop new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.
Prepare concepts and prototypes for information system software solutions or for specialized software domains and evaluate the cost effectiveness of these concepts.
Implement software solutions that may be commercial-off-the-shelf or internally developed.
Evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of overall system.
Apply software engineering principles, tools, and advanced techniques to develop and support applications, including software development methodologies, database design methodologies, programming languages, source code control for release management, and disaster recovery methodologies.
Participate in the planning of system and development deployment as well as be responsible for meeting software compliance and quality standards.
Qualifications We Require
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent:
higher degree (MS, PhD) in relevant discipline;
experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.
Consistent record of strong performance and success.
Experience using SQL.
Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary teaming environment.
An understanding of HR business processes.
Experience designing, analyzing, supporting, and developing software solutions using PeopleSoft or similar business-related COTS tools.
Experience with configuring and developing interfaces to COTS software packages.
Experience building custom software solutions using C, C++, C#, Java, MS Visual Studio, MS SQL Server, HTML5, CSS, or SQL.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
Project management skills, including the ability to gather requirements and lead IT projects.
Strong teamwork skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

The HR Systems Department delivers innovative IT solutions and support for Sandia's Human Resources, Payroll, Pension, and Medical systems. The team primarily uses Oracle's PeopleSoft suite, but is underway in learning about and employing the latest HR cloud-based technologies. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level security clearance.
