What Your Job Will Be Like

The HR Management Systems Department (10749) is seeking a motivated Software Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team!

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Investigate, design, develop, test, document, and analyze software systems and applications.

  • Develop new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.

  • Prepare concepts and prototypes for information system software solutions or for specialized software domains and evaluate the cost effectiveness of these concepts.

  • Implement software solutions that may be commercial-off-the-shelf or internally developed.

  • Evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of overall system.

  • Apply software engineering principles, tools, and advanced techniques to develop and support applications, including software development methodologies, database design methodologies, programming languages, source code control for release management, and disaster recovery methodologies.

  • Participate in the planning of system and development deployment as well as be responsible for meeting software compliance and quality standards.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent:

  • higher degree (MS, PhD) in relevant discipline;

  • experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.

  • Consistent record of strong performance and success.

  • Experience using SQL.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary teaming environment.

  • An understanding of HR business processes.

  • Experience designing, analyzing, supporting, and developing software solutions using PeopleSoft or similar business-related COTS tools.

  • Experience with configuring and developing interfaces to COTS software packages.

  • Experience building custom software solutions using C, C++, C#, Java, MS Visual Studio, MS SQL Server, HTML5, CSS, or SQL.

  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.

  • Project management skills, including the ability to gather requirements and lead IT projects.

  • Strong teamwork skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

The HR Systems Department delivers innovative IT solutions and support for Sandia's Human Resources, Payroll, Pension, and Medical systems. The team primarily uses Oracle's PeopleSoft suite, but is underway in learning about and employing the latest HR cloud-based technologies. Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level security clearance.

You could be the R&D, Computer Scientist we are seeking to help develop our software suite in support of electromagnetic analysis on high performance computing clusters, including state-of-the-art, next-generation hardware platforms. If chosen, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of experts on advancing the laboratory's analysis code suite associated with understanding electromagnetic system effects, as well as travel to national and international conferences to present your cutting-edge research and results. In addition, you will be provided many opportunities for mentorship and peer review from world-renowned researchers in electromagnetic software development/analysis, with the opportunity to branch out into fundamental research into multi-physics modeling, adaptive meshing, as well as in advanced techniques in numerical pre-processing techniques and data analysis. In this position, you will not only mature a deep technical understanding of electromagnetic software & algorithmic development, but also develop key skills in written/oral communication and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
