The Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the costume shop for Viterbo University's Theatre and Music Theatre program. This includes managing and maintaining inventory, supervising, and mentoring student workers, overseeing the construction and acquisition of costumes, and ensuring that all costumes meet the needs of each production. The Costume Shop Supervisor is a full-time, 9-month, non-exempt position eligible for employee benefits. The successful candidate will report to the faculty costume designer and work closely with the production team to ensure the success of each production. This position has a start date of August 16, 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain inventory of all costumes, fabric, and other items in the costume shop.

  • Supervise and mentor student workers and assign tasks as needed.

  • Oversee construction and acquisition of costumes for all productions, working closely with

  • directors and designers to ensure their needs are met.

  • Coordinate with other departments, such as scenic and lighting design, to ensure all elements.

  • Attend production meetings and technical rehearsals as needed.

  • Ensure that all costumes meet safety standards and are properly maintained and stored.

  • Assist with developing and maintaining a budget for the costume shop and ensure all expenses are tracked and documented.

  • Train and educate student workers on safe handling and construction techniques for costumes.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the costume shop.

General Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in theatre, costume design, or a related field.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a costume shop or related field.

  • Experience managing inventory and budgets.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff.

  • Knowledge of construction techniques and materials commonly used in costume fabrication.

  • Familiarity with relevant software and technology, including inventory management systems and design software.

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment for all staff and students.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of the employment Visa.
