Job Description:
Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)
Salary: $36,421 (10-month, college-year)
The Costume Assistant will work under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager and the Costume Designer.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Creating, executing and teaching construction methods for crafts and costumes for theatre department productions
Construct, alter and maintain costumes as needed
Teach students all aspects of costume construction
Teach students wardrobe and supervise student wardrobe teams prior to and during dress rehearsals and performances
Guide students in and participate in care and maintenance of costume shop areas, equipment, and materials
Guide students and participate in maintenance of stock rooms - organizing, tagging, replacing stock as it is used and returned
Support and follow safety procedures
Help inventory and order supplies semi-annually.
Assist Costume Designer and Shop Supervisor with evaluation of students at the end of every semester
Help build an inclusive learning environment
Attend relevant meetings to represent the Costume area
Complete all shows in a timely manner and at stated level of quality
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Experience in a professional or academic costume shop
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Knowledge, understanding and implementation of multicultural and diversity issues
Proficiency with relevant computer applications and programs
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders
Valid/clean driver's license to operate a motor vehicle
Preferred:
Costume related skills (crafts or hair or other skills)
Formal training in costume construction
Wardrobe experience
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
