Job title: Cost Accountant

Position type and expected hours of work: Full time position, typically 8am to 5pm, with an hour lunch break. Additional hours may be necessary.

Summary: The Cost Accountant is tasked with overseeing all facets of manufacturing and production costing analysis and inventory across multiple business locations. This role involves comparing standard costs to actual costs and meticulously identifying and explaining variances by customer, part number, and production jobs.

Essential functions:

  • Conduct thorough analysis of manufacturing and production costs across various business sites.

  • Compare standard costs with actual costs and provide detailed explanations for any variances.

  • Manage inventory and ensure accuracy through regular audits and reconciliations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and insights for cost analysis.

  • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives to optimize operational efficiency.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on cost performance for management review.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices in cost accounting.

  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on cost-related matters, including pricing strategies and budgeting.

  • Utilize accounting software and tools to streamline processes and improve accuracy in cost calculations.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities by preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts related to manufacturing costs.

  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities by providing insights and projections on manufacturing costs.

  • Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.

  • Participate in the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to manufacturing costs.

Competency/Abilities:

  • Skilled in analyzing intricate financial data to discern patterns, trends, and discrepancies within manufacturing and production costs.

  • Proficient in utilizing accounting software and tools for cost analysis, inventory management, and financial reporting. Experience with NetSuite is preferred.

  • Capable of identifying cost-saving opportunities, devising solutions to operational inefficiencies, and addressing discrepancies in cost analysis.

  • Comprehensive understanding of financial principles, cost accounting methodologies, and their practical application in strategic business decision-making.

  • Demonstrates adherence to ethical standards and integrity in handling financial information, ensuring strict compliance with accounting principles and organizational policies.

  • Effective in prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple responsibilities concurrently within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in conveying complex financial information to stakeholders at all levels through clear and concise verbal and written communication.

  • Knowledgeable about regulatory requirements and standards pertinent to cost accounting, financial reporting, and inventory valuation.

  • Projects a positive, friendly, and service-oriented attitude in all interactions.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with subordinates, peers, and management.

  • Maintains good attendance, adheres to a regular work schedule, and exhibits a strong work ethic.

  • Upholds confidentiality internally and externally and strictly adheres to company policies and guidelines.

Work environment: The position requires the employee to work in an office environment.

Physical demands: The position primarily requires sitting, typing and viewing a computer. Other less frequent physical demands include bending and lifting.

Travel: Travel is not expected but could occur.

Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree in accounting is preferred.
