The cost accountant provides cost accounting and financial support to the manufacturing facility in our Atlanta, GA operation. The position will be responsible for the direction, review, and management of both cost accounting responsibilities and some controlling responsibilities of their facility through close partnership with both the controlling and operations team. The cost accountant will be responsible for maintaining a cost control environment that complies with the Company's internal control policies and Sarbanes-Oxley. The cost accountant will directly support the controller at the manufacturing facility in Atlanta and be required to support any ad-hoc analysis and projects as required.

Job Duties

  • Maintaining changes to formulation and/or cost components that affect the selling price of manufactured goods to related companies.

  • Assisting Manufacturing personnel to develop standard costs and managing of standard costs of new products or expansion of manufacturing through support and careful review of costing data provided via capital project process.

  • Reconciliation and valuation of manufacturing inventory as well as finished goods inventory

  • Partner with Site Controller on the financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for the manufacturing facility

  • Supports controller in finalizing weekly and monthly financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements

  • Assist controller and plant manager with managing and publishing daily metrics on the daily metrics reporting tools on and off the production floor.

  • Support cost reduction efforts of facility by partnering with finance, accounting and operations

  • Supports controlling in completing in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast

  • Develop appropriate processes to ensure internal controls are in place and periodically audited

  • Support the integration and development of the SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.

  • Performs and monitors the plant's monthly closing process in conjunction with the central accounting functions

  • Support the Coordination and oversight of physical inventories and audits of sites

  • Perform other assigned duties as may be required in meeting company objectives.

  • Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment.

  • Assisting the Atlanta Site Controller and Doors Business Unit Controller with other projects on an as needed basis.


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business management or relevant discipline required.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in cost accounting and/or controlling in a manufacturing environment

  • Financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability accompanied by knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles. Understands P&L, balance sheet and cash flow dynamics.

  • Experience with bill of materials, inventory valuation, standard costing, ERP/MRP systems (SAP)

  • Team player who is organized, a self-starter and pays attention to detail.

  • Excellent skills in the use of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • History of working directly with operations and corporate finance on strategic initiatives and analysis on operational variances vs plan and cost accounting.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage to routine and work remotely without supervision.

  • Minimum travel between sites (less than 10%). This role will be dedicated to the Atlanta site.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS * Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study * Prior experience involving cost or accounting functions in engineering and construction * Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in cost accounting * Job position requires excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills * Must be proficient in the use of MS office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. * The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. * Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery * Frequently communicates with other employees/customers.
