Cost Accountant

John Tillman Company, a division of Bunzl, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of welding protective products in the United States. We are looking for a Cost Accountant who is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The Cost Accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide management with appropriate costing information.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the updates of data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system.

• Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems.

• Oversee standard costs in the bill of materials.

• Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.

• Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close.

• Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles.

• Report on breakeven points by products, work centers, and factories.

• Gather data and report periodic variances and their causes, focusing on spending variances.

• Manage the effectiveness of operational performance by providing operations with financial analysis, thorough reporting of plant metrics and KPIs.

• Analyze plant financial data to quantify cost savings opportunities and to support Operations by implementing cost reduction initiatives to improve PBIT.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

• A minimum of three years' work experience in cost accounting is preferred.

• Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Previous experience with SAGE preferred.

• Excellent analysis skills and the ability to collaborate with multi-department teams.

• Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to review work for any discrepancies.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills required.

• Outstanding problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

• Ability to be versatile; can adapt to a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

• High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients.

• Strong leadership and customer service skills with the ability to ensure that a high level of service and quality is maintained.

• Product knowledge with the clear technical understanding of services to be able to effectively communicated with customers.

• Excellent project management, organizational, and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines.

• Persistence coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

• Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision, and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments.

Tillman California salary range: $70,000-$85,000 plus bonus eligibility based on experience, education and geographic location.
