Coordinate activities involving release of medical information. Comply with regulatory requirements and hospital policy/procedures in the release of confidential information.

Responsibilities
- Training and orientation of new staff/Covering staff
- 1.1 Will be responsible for orienting and training file clerk staff to assist with copying records for release.
- Release of Information office administrative functions
- 2.1 Maintain equipment and supplies by monitoring paper trays/stock, toner, envelopes, tape, staples, etc. and submitting supply orders as needed.
- Processing of incoming requests for information
- 3.1 Open and date stamp incoming mail; record request information in the hospital information system.
- Quality and timeliness
- 4.1 Review and screen subpoenaed records for completeness; refer problem records to manager for additional review.
- Quality and timeliness, continued
- 5.1 Ensure all subpoena and audit deadlines are met and that all record requests are completed within 30 days of receipt.
- Service
- 6.1 Greet customers courteously in person and by phone.
- Computer skills
- 7.1 Uses hospital computer and information systems (HIS and electronic medical record) correctly, creating and obtaining accurate information.
- Teamwork
- 8.1 Communicates concerns and issues to the Clinical Information Manager.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
1 year experience required in release of health information, processing subpoenas, and interpreting federal (HIPAA) and State regulations regarding the privacy and use of health information.
