Under the supervision of the appropriate Program Coordinator/Director or Academic Dean, the instructor is responsible for course content and syllabi for all assigned courses. Each instructor will provide effective instruction in all classes by implementing active learning strategies and focusing on student learning outcomes. This position is supervised by the Prison Coordinator in collaboration with the Dean of Continuing Education. At all times, instructional personnel should be aware of the need to continue the personal and professional growth necessary to perform their duties.

This position is assigned to the Granville Correctional Institution in Butner, NC.

  • Teach assigned Introduction to Welding classes

  •  Maintain class records, attendance, syllabi, objectives, tests, and lesson plans

  • Conduct ongoing surveillance of assigned work area to ensure proper security, sanitation and safety practices.

  • Assess student learning outcomes and demonstrate the use of the results to make improvements to the course/program

  • Determine need for supplies; ensure proper storage and security of tools and supplies; obtains quotes as needed

  • Must be at ease working in a correctional setting with inmates, flexible, organized with attention to details, assertive, possess excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with possible conflict in a calm, orderly manner.

  • Experiment with innovative teaching techniques, and other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma

  • Two years of prior welding experience in GTAW, GMAW and SMAW. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.

  • Must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, etc.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Physical Requirements:

  • Moving objects up to 75 pounds.

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
