Our agency is looking to hire a Corrections Specialist 2 within the Reentry Division

  • Cognitive Behavioral Interventions Unit. This position is based two days each at Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC) and Olympia Corrections Center (OCC).

This position contributes to the Department's mission and vision by providing expertise and technical assistance to ensure delivery of Cognitive Behavioral Interventions in alignment with evidence-based practices; address participants risk, needs and behaviors; and support participant success in both prison and community-based programming as well as reentry. This position will facilitate evidence-based programs, which target criminogenic needs, to higher risk incarcerated individuals. These programs provide participants with opportunity to engage in cognitive self-change in order to develop skills needed to enhance social abilities and improve problem solving. With participant development of these skills, participants may think in ways that change their actions which lead to safer communities and safer correctional operations.

Provide professional delivery of all Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBI's) within the inventory of the CBI Unit to participants within the facility.

  • Screen and assign participants to designated CBI Program using approved criteria.

  • Schedule and enter callouts for multiple sessions.

  • Facilitate multiple sessions of CBI group programming to participants as a single facilitator and/or as a lead facilitator with other trained support facilitation staff.

  • Administer the program as dictated in the approved intervention handbook.

  • Observe and monitor participant participation and provide feedback on the lesson by providing positive reinforcement and additional coaching as needed.

  • Schedule and facilitate make-up sessions as necessary and in accordance with the program requirements.

Communicate with stakeholders on the status of ongoing CBIs within the facility.

  • Work collaboratively with classification staff and other stakeholders regarding the status of the program and the participants involved.

  • Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings for participants falling below participation requirements or for any corrective interventions per the CBI staff handbook behavioral section.

  • Notify the CBI Fidelity Unit the required details for each CBI class prior to its start date.

Document individuals' participation.

  • Upon determination of the final participant list for the program, enter the OMNI Programs information or ensure that the necessary details are provided to the staff who enters OMNI Programs/RPM Coordinator information

  • Document participant attendance in OMNI Programs for each session, inclusive of absences and make up sessions

  • Complete and document participant evaluations in OMNI on individuals attending the class to include: class participation, homework completion, engagement in role plays, and other behavioral requirements as necessary.

  • Document in OMNI all behavioral responses in accordance with the intervention handbook.

  • Upon approval for termination, document in OMNI Programs the participant's removal from the program. Include the reason for termination as well as the approving authority.

  • Document in OMNI Programs the participants' completion of the program as well as related certificates earned

Participate in and complete all scheduled training/coaching sessions for CBI programs, and successfully demonstrate mastery of material within prescribed timelines.

  • Attend and successfully complete the initial CBI facilitator training as scheduled.

  • Upon determination of a new program offering, attend and successfully complete the new program training as scheduled.

  • Attend and participate in CBI Fidelity Unit assessment, feedback, coaching and booster sessions to reinforce/improve skills in program delivery.

Other duties as assigned*  Required Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent AND three years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, social services or closely related field.

OR

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency AND 3 years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, social services or closely related field with at least 2 of those years involved in the direct delivery or facilitation of evidence-based programming such as Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions

AND

  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; Familiarity with Washington State databases including OMNI.

In addition to at least one of the above, this position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas (competency may be gained through education, experience, or a combination thereof):

Facilitator Skills

  • Demonstrates empathy, facilitation/teaching techniques; understanding of group processes and interpersonal interactions, and the ability to control a group of incarcerated individual participants through non-coercive means.

Community Relationships

  • Participates in the formation and maintenance of successful relationships with criminal justice partners and community resources.

Observation

  • Observes and strategizes personal response based on environmental conditions and human behavior.

Stress Tolerance

  • Remains calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include, but not limited to, volatile, threatening, or other crisis/emergency situations. Expertly intervenes in response to threats.

Adaptability

  • Incorporates new information into and exiting framework of understanding. Accepts change and supports the Agency through changes in law, policy and procedure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and understanding of evidence-based treatment delivery practices.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Risk Needs Responsivity principles.
