JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to a Sergeant or Lieutenant, responsible for supervising inmates and providing care, safety, and security while maintaining rules, regulations, and cleanliness of the Williamson County Jail. Armed assignment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Assists in maintaining security of the correctional and courthouse complex facilities
Receives, books, and secures inmates upon arrival
Conducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitors
Supervises inmate's activities (i.e., court appearances, recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)
Transports inmates to and from various locations
Serves warrants and other legal documents within the Jail
Assists in responding to emergency calls and routine complaints
Maintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements, such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.
Maintains level of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a peace officer
Performs special duties as assigned
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive inmates
Position involves constantly standing and walking on concrete floors while making rounds
Position involves dragging a minimum of 165 pounds (training/recruitment mannequin) in a manner consistent with rescue and restraint maneuvers
Position involves to hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear understandable voice
Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and mobile radio equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator
Position involves driving and sitting for long periods of time
Position involves pursuing violators on foot over rough terrain and obstacles
Position involves discharging a firearm with either hand
Position may involve working day and/or overnight shifts
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Maximum security facility behind locked doors
Exposure to individuals accused or convicted of crimes, individuals with risk of illness, and potential biohazards
May be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
Valid Texas driver's license
Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) training
Required within twelve (12) months of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience working in a correctional facility supervising, transporting or monitoring inmates
Bilingual (Spanish)
