Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures of inmate patients and employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID activities. Insures that appropriate dental care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion.
Renders dental judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit.Works under general direction of the Regional Dental Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Directly supervises 2-4 dental hygienists in the unit dental services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Must hold a current license to practice dentistry by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, DPS, DEA, and CPR certificates. Willingness and ability to learn and use Electronic Medical Record is essential.
Computer literacy with Office and networks very helpful.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from offenders, employees, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
General dentistry- preferred a minimum experience of three years.
Must use good judgment in dealing with diverse people in secure environment.
Bi-lingual helpful, but not required.
