CORRECTIONAL TRADES LEADER
Provide work assignments to offenders on a work crew, utilizing any skills offenders may possess.
Supervise the crew and instruct them in maintenance and repair of institution systems.
Instruct offenders in completing routine electrical connections, basic carpentry, painting with a variety of equipment, connecting water supply and drainage lines, opening clogged drains and repairing metal parts with welding equipment as well as yard and gardening work.
Provide orientation of new offenders assigned to your crew.
Enforce all institution and departmental rules.
Ensure that no security breach occurs.
Pat search work crews as per institution policy.
Maintain time cards on work crew.
Follow institution tool control policy and ensure that tools and equipment used by the work crews are accounted for at the completion of the work day or project.
Perform building maintenance in order to assure safe well maintained facilities. Ascertain that all doors are locked in areas of limited access.
Check all work sites before leaving.
Provide equipment maintenance, assure all equipment and machinery is safe and in good operational condition.
Maintain institutional buildings and grounds.
Provide support services to other departments as needed.
Participate in problem solving, planning and reviewing policies and procedures for possible improvement.
Provide back-up for tool room or keys when appropriate. Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Four years of full-time work experience in one or more of the recognized building (e.g., carpentry, painting, plumbing/pipefitting, electrical and masonry) and mechanical/repair (e.g., air conditioning/ heating, auto mechanics, upholstery and welding) trades.
A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a recognized building and mechanical trade for each year of the required experience.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Furniture Upholsterer, Mason, Maintenance Repairer, Carpenter 1 or 2, Painter 1 or 2, Plumber 1 or 2, or Welder.
