This position is EXEMPT MANAGERIAL and is not subject to certain provisions of the NC Human Resources Act (GS 126). Employees in these positions serve at the pleasure of agency leadership.

This Correctional Prison Warden is located at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, in Raleigh, NC, Wake County. The Warden V is responsible for administering established policies and procedures for the daily operation of a major close custody institution which includes a healthcare facility.

This position is responsible for the planning, directing, and the coordination of the total operations of the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women. This facility provides diagnostic/reception services, medical and mental health inpatient/outpatient services, education and programmatic services, and houses all categories of female inmate populations. The Warden is responsible for the overall management of these services as well as overseeing the management of these populations per policy, to include managing the death row population.

This position is responsible for 792 full time employees as well as contractual employees and up to 1387 female inmates. This is inclusive of providing coordination and direction to line staff in all areas of the facility.

This position will report directly to the Central Region Director.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Management Preferences

  • Experience at the Assistant Superintendent level or higher.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work;

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
