Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in providing nursing services to County Jail inmates; performs related work as assigned.

Note: The full salary range $59,530-$87,509 annual equivalent. There is a sign-on Bonus at hire of $500 with the potential of $1000 additional upon completion of requirements.

Note: Positions available for evening and night shifts.

Typical Duties

(Illustrative only)

  • Assesses inmates' health needs, plans and implements care, and provides ongoing evaluation

  • Administers medications and prescribed treatments

  • Performs clinical nursing functions including suture removal, wound treatment, and EKGs

  • Collects inmate history, medical records and prescription data

  • Monitors daily medical needs and coordinates with multi-disciplinary team

  • Participates in prevention and control of communicable diseases

  • Collects forensic specimens

  • Provides education and counseling as needed by the individual

  • Prepares and maintains individual case records and program reports

Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: standing and walking to make rounds, etc; vision acuity (near & far); working with and around other staff members, detention officers and inmates; dealing with interruptions; communicating with staff and inmates; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation with peers and inmates.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a current Arizona RN license, and current CPR certification; OR, any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must submit to a background search and successfully pass polygraph examination. Must not have a felony conviction within previous ten years or dishonorable discharge from the military. Must not have a misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence within previous five years. Must not have used marijuana within twelve months of hire or dangerous or narcotic drugs in the past five years for more than experimentation.

The ideal candidate will have experience as an RN in a Correctional environment.

This position is non-exempt from overtime.

This position is safety sensitive.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of :

  • Principles and practices of clinical nursing

  • Principles and practices of corrections operations

  • Communicable disease and chronic disease prevention

  • Working knowledge of:

  • Symptoms and treatment protocols for a wide range of chronic conditions, including HIV, hypertension, diabetes, drug/alcohol abuse, etc.

  • Medical, surgical and psychiatric/mental health

  • Correctional security procedures and systems

  • Skill in:

  • Health assessment, planning and implementation of appropriate treatment

  • Assessing and managing medical-surgical and mental health issues in inmate population

  • Use of medical instruments and laboratory equipment

  • Clinical service practices

  • Critical thinking in stressful situations

  • Providing health education and counseling

  • Conducting needs assessment

  • Use of computers and applicable software

  • Ability to:

  • Work in a correctional setting

  • Exercise initiative and judgment in selecting appropriate nursing interventions

  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations

  • Work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays

  • Identify clients in need of services without referrals

  • Prepare complete and accurate records and reports

  • Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public

  • Follow written and verbal instructions

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Under close supervision, and in a training capacity, is responsible for technical work of moderate difficulty in law enforcement or investigative duties; performs related work as assigned. Note: We are hiring for a position in Tuba City, AZ. Typical Duties (Illustrative Only) * Attends and obtains Certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) academy to learn the principles, methods and techniques employed by the Deputy Sheriff class * Attends indoor and outdoor classes and training sessions for preparation as a Deputy Sheriff * Performs rigorous physical training * Learns to drive a motor vehicle under normal and emergency conditions safely * Learns to demonstrate command presence in conflict situations * Learns to write clear, comprehensive and accurate reports, legibly and with correct grammar and spelling * Learns to understand, interpret and apply criminal and civil laws * Learns use of various firearms and first aid methods * Performs related duties as assigned Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; working with and around other public officials, citizens and staff; dealing with interruptions; writing, writing weapons qualifications, telephones, etc. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazards including mechanical, burns, electrical, explosives, chemicals, heights and others and exposure to adverse atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases and others. Minimum Qualifications ust be U.S. citizen (Ariz. Admin. Code § R13-04-105(A)(1) (2016), 21 years of age at time of appointment, high school graduate (or G.E.D.). ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain certification from the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) within one year of employment with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. Must pass AZPOST prescribed physical agility test. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
