Correctional Nurse 3

The Position

Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.

This position is located in High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV. The Correctional Nurse 3 position involves several critical responsibilities.

Key duties include patient assessment, treatment coordination, medication management, and emergency support. This entail identifying patient healthcare needs, developing and evaluating nursing care plans, conducting sick calls, and administering medications. The role also requires performing physical assessments, assisting with examinations, and providing emergency medical treatment.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining hygiene, patient charting, and ensuring safety. The nurse must document progress notes, review charts, prepare reports, and comply with regulatory standards. Observing safety practices, adhering to OSHA guidelines, and ensuring the safety of patient care equipment are essential.

Professionalism, strong work ethic, customer service, communication skills, and proficiency with necessary computer programs are also critical components of the role. The nurse supervises staff, ensuring infection control procedures and training compliance. These duties must be performed in accordance with the NV State Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act, departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
