The North Carolina Division of Prisons is eager to hire those committed to excellence and seeking a career path in Adult Corrections.  We are seeking full time employees to join our team as Correctional Officers and are pleased to announce the new Step Pay Plan approved by the NC Legislature.

This pay plan offers competitive starting salaries and guaranteed annual increases based on each year of experience as a NC Correctional Officer.  Those with prior NC Correctional Officer experience can return to employment with full credit in the pay plan for each year of experience as well.

Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting the Correctional Food Service Supervisor with the quality of work performed by the offenders in an assigned food preparation and food service and maintaining sanitary conditions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing first-line supervision of male offenders assigned to work in a large-scale food production and food service correctional facility operation.

  • Providing supervision of custody and food production training.

  • Supervising offender workers engaged in a variety of activities in food production including cooking, baking, and serving food to the offender population.

  • Training offenders in the arts of institutional cooking, baking and serving.

  • Maintaining standards of sanitation in all areas of the kitchen.

  • Ensuring proper food storage.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.  The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.

 If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the Randolph Correctional Center:

Randolph Correctional Center, in Asheboro, is a minimum-security prison for adult males. The prison has a dental clinic that serves offenders located within facilities located in the South Central, Central and Western Regions.

This facility is a 226-bed minimum custody male facility. It also has 68 beds designated as Long-Term Care.

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.  We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following::

  •  Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
