To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must NOT have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Supervisor in a multi custody correctional facility, this position is responsible for assisting with the quality of work performed by offenders in their assigned food preparation/food service capacities as well as maintaining sanitary conditions in the kitchen/dining hall area. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing first-line supervision of male offenders assigned to work in a large-scale food production and food service correctional facility operation.

  • Maintaining a dual role of custody and food production training.

  • Supervising offender workers engaged in a variety of activities in food production including cooking, baking, and serving food to the offender population.

  • Training offenders in the arts of institutional cooking, baking and serving.

  • Maintaining standards of sanitation in all areas of the kitchen.

  • Ensuring proper food storage.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

Note to Current State Employees:

The salary grade for this position is NC05 (Salary Range: $31,688 - $55,453). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Anson Correctional Institution:

Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in close and medium custody housing units and male offenders in a minimum custody unit. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs for men and women.

Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender. Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the work experience section of the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
