Job Description and Duties

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Under the direct supervision of the Facility Captain, the Correctional Counselor II (Supervisor) assigns and reviews work of Correctional Counselor Is. Is responsible for instructing and assisting with In-Service Training Programs.

Evaluates staff performance and takes or recommends appropriate action. Assigns and reviews cases. Counsels with and gives assistance to Correctional Counselor Is on difficult case problems.

Provides casework services to selected inmates and serves as a treatment consultant to the custodial staff in segregation units. Supervises and checks the compilation of case records to determine that policies and procedures are followed. Follows up on specific classification recommendations.

Assists in the development of effective casework procedures. May carry a reduced caseload. Coordinates the work of the Department of Corrections with law enforcement agencies and interested public.

Performs special assignments and duties. Consults with custodial, education, care, and treatment of staff. Makes recommendations to parole services regarding parole or retention of inmates. May act as Facility Captain during his/her absence.

High Desert State Prison is located approximately eight miles east of the town of Susanville, or about a 1 hour 30 minute drive northwest of Reno, Nevada.

If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
