This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC.  This facility is an 856-bed Medium Custody facility with 315 staff.

The Assistant Superintendent for Custody and Operations IV assists the Correctional Administrator in the total operation of the facility. Additionally, this position has direct management and supervisory responsibility for the operation of several critical functions to include the custody and security function, the general day-to-day, 24-hour operation for the facility and the unit management operation.

Position has direct responsibility for the safe and secure housing of male felon inmates housed at the institution and must also ensure the safety of the staff and the public. This position will direct and structure the work of Correctional Captains, Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers in addition to Unit Managers, Assistant Unit Managers, and support staff. During any extended period of absence of the Correctional Administrator, this position will assume those duties and responsibilities.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

 If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

Thorough knowledge of inmate custody and program management in correctional settings.

Thorough knowledge of inmate custody practices and procedures to include knowledge  of       inmate rehabilitation

Thorough knowledge of effective management and supervision practices

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
