The primary purpose of this position is to review highly technical and complex drawings of major project signage. Review calculations for sign dimension which includes metal thickness, lettering positions, and spacing.  This position must detect inconsistencies and communicate them for resolution by DOT engineers. Position must then enter revisions with complete accuracy into computer system. Position must then be able to articulate the final specifications within these drawings to a production supervisor. Position must also oversee the quality control of the signing operations at the Sign Plant help train employees and inmates engaged in the preparation and actual processing of highway road signs.  This position technically supervises a variety of processes at the plant that must meet specific specifications and warranty requirements of NCDOT, the Federal Highway Administration and environmental requirements.    These processes involve the use of various assortments of equipment and tools. Directly supervises offender laborers. Must account for tool, chemical and key control. Over-time work is a requirement.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Monday-Thursday 6:30am-5:00pm

About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC)

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Proven experience managing front line supervision.

  • Documented experience reading and interpreting blueprints.

  • Demonstrated experience in supervising unskilled labor.

  • Must have a valid Driver's license.

Management Preference

  • Community college education or same level of practical work experience.

  • Prior work experience in metal fabrication.

Necessary Special Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.  Click HERE for specific certification requirements.

  • Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

  • Pass Physical Examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

  • Pass Drug Screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

  • Attend and successfully complete (6) weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility. Employees shall be scheduled for BCOT during their 2nd month of employment.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and a minimum of two years of related industry/service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
