This position is located at Correction Enterprises Sewing Plant within Columbus Correctional Institution in Whiteville, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to train inmates in the safe, proper and most efficient operation of equipment and practices utilized in a sewing manufacturing operation while ensuring quantity and quality standards in accordance with applicable laws, policies and regulations.
The employee must organize and direct work assignments of inmates, set up of equipment and processing of raw materials. The employee must prepare a variety of written reports involving subjects such as inventory levels, equipment specifications, inmate incidents, incentive wage payroll and production schedules. This position requires employee to work in an environment which may involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, dangerous machinery, chemicals, body fluids and falling objects.
This position may require use of personal protective equipment such as ear plugs/muffs, and safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, respirators, protective clothing, etc., and/or other personal protective equipment used in a sewing operation.
The employee must conduct visual and audio surveillance of plant operations to ensure custody and security of inmates and facility. The employee must review work in process and inspect finished products to ensure achievement of production, quality and safety standards.
The employee must effectively communicate verbally and in writing with higher management, inmates and customers applicable information to complete assigned task. The employee must maintain a professional demeanor at all times while working with staff and inmates. The employee must operate, inspect and maintain equipment utilized in a sewing operation.
The employee must perform appropriate crisis intervention involving inmate behavior. The employee must complete annual CPR, Fire Extinguisher and Blood borne Pathogens training. In addition, the employee must maintain a valid NC Driver's license.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
Must possess prior supervisory experience.
Must demonstrate prior hands on training and supervision in a sewing manufacturing environment.
Must demonstrate prior experience producing high quality clothing and/or other fabric items.
Must demonstrate prior experience referring to patterns when laying out, piecing together and fabricating fabric items.
Must demonstrate prior experience and operational knowledge of various industrial sewing equipment including but not limited to cutting machines, hot irons, and other various types of sewing machines, pressing equipment and scissors.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and a minimum of two years of related industry/service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
