Basic Function:

Working under the direction of the Editor of Corporate Publications, this professional level position helps lead the editorial team in planning, organizing, editing, writing, and proofing articles for high-quality company publications including AramcoWorld magazine, Al-Ayyam Al-Jamilah magazine, and other similar projects. This position requires leadership in workflow design, quality control, project management, and adherence to editorial guidelines as well as keeping projects on schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Source, compile, edit all material, and collaborate in rewriting as required to assure standards of policy, tone, accuracy, style, and professionalism

  • Ensure integrity and quality as established by editorial guidelines and Public Affairs policies

  • Source and select illustrations and photos, and guide designers regarding sequence, stress, length, illustrations, photo size, etc.

  • Review, approve, and modify rough layouts in a collaborative, deadline environment

  • Prepare a working schedule of deadlines required to meet established publication dates

  • Plan and make assignments in accordance with the themes considering lead times required to meet publication schedules

  • Maintain and further develop networks of freelance contributors

  • Meet with and maintain contacts with major publication companies and other service providers who may become future bidders

  • Outline story suggestions, information sources, sets length, tone and approach of articles

  • Coordinate production requirements with Editor, Corp. Publications Advisor, designers, printers and others

  • Review and approve all costs relating to the publications including printing costs

  • Maintain, utilize and as needed update equitable fee schedules for writers, visual content providers and other contributors

  • Keep abreast of developments in publishing, printing, photography, and writing as well as in Saudi Aramco, the Middle East, and the oil industry

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or closely related field required; Bachelor's Degree in literature, history, political science or related fields also accepted, Master's degree in a related field strongly preferred

  • Eight (8) years of deep journalistic experience with magazines and/or periodicals with at least two (2) years of experience involving supervisory, editorial responsibilities

  • Must have strong knowledge of professional standards applicable to journalism and publishing in the US, Europe, and the Middle East

  • Must have strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills; a good listener and strategist who is comfortable receiving input and guidance from diverse sources and drawing from that sound plans; able to address issues with tact and diplomacy.

  • Must have proficiency with print and digital publishing applications

  • Working knowledge of the cultures, histories, and politics of the broad Islamic world and its relations to the West, in particular the Middle East and Saudi Arabia is required.

  • Familiarity with basic Arabic preferred.

  • Must have excellent writing, editorial and organizational skills

  • Must have basic knowledge about Saudi Aramco and Saudi Arabia and have a demonstrated understanding and appreciation of Islam, Middle East relations, and the international oil industry, and an understanding of the public relations field

  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined

  • Must possess good work habits, an exemplary work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
