Position Title: Process Evaluation Advisor (Study Manager)
Department/Division: Global Project Services
The candidate will provide case studies on capital installation options for capital projects executed at domestic and international Albemarle Corporation facilities. The candidate will also provide leadership for technical support on strategic development related to long term expansion or improvement of facilities and infrastructure.
Desired base of operations is the Engineering & Project Excellence Department in Charlotte, NC with alternatives to be located in Houston, TX or one of our international offices in Perth or Santiago. Candidate must be highly motivated to ensure designs of Albemarle projects are accomplished within budget & schedule and represents Albemarle's technical requirements. Projects could be at any of Albemarle's global locations with potential to expand into other regions around the world. Responsibilities will include corporate oversight of consultants assisting with evaluations and content from them as an individual contributor.
Works with project teams and manufacturing to develop economic models of unit operations and integrated plant operations to accurately compare and contrast capital construction options.
Project Team Involvement
Provide direct support in the Evaluation and Select stages of a project to compare and contrast variables for location, labor cost, utility costs, capital cost, etc.
Interpret SAP cost, equipment lists, estimates, process flow diagrams, mass balance, energy balance, waste stream, and final product sales information for use in studies.
Collaborate with Process Design and Business leaders to interpret the needs of the business and operation and finalize the project economic model for design and execution.
Present concise reports and summaries based on analysis provided.
Collaborate with Project Management, Project Controls, Discipline Design, Mechanical Technical Services, Operations, & Maintenance to assure project success.
Health of Discipline
Maintain current knowledge of process evaluation standards and research new developments in theory and application related to deployment in the chemical process industries Subject Matter Expert.
Maintain informed, comprehensive knowledge of Albemarle Corporation facilities in order to provide wide-ranging evaluation efforts, including analysis of cost systems at Albemarle Corporation facilities.
Provide specific process evaluation expertise to assure continuity and maintenance of Albemarle Corporation Engineering Specifications and Standards, including best practice documentation related to specific design discipline.
Safety - no recordable injuries (personally or as a result of projects).
Ensure that project economic analysis is compiled and submitted correctly and timely with a high degree of accuracy.
Ensure stage gate schedules are matched to meet or exceed desired project completion, cost, quality, and technical expectations.
Ensure that technical content and quality of designs and installation meet requirements of project scopes.
BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or related field.
10 + years of experience in the Chemical Process Industry or similar industry.
Significant experience in multi-discipline design of complex chemical manufacturing facilities with specific experience of coordinating and organizing feasibility studies.
Exhibit drive to execute engineering designs for absolute lowest cost.
Excellent Computer skills Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, SAP
Familiarity with common process modeling software such as ChemCAD.
Significant experience in the application and utilization of engineering design tools used by both Owner organizations and Contractor organizations.
Independent self-starter with results-oriented focus.
Excellent team member skills with ability to work with all levels of the organization from needs of the laborer performing the work to the needs of reporting to the CEO.
Proven ability in problem solving and multi-tasking.
Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel to Albemarle Corporation domestic & international plant sites.
Registration as a Professional Engineer.
Global capital project engineering management experience.
Experience with major EPC contractors.
Working knowledge of IPA and CII practices.
Language skills beyond English (Spanish or Chinese, especially).
