We currently operate six high-tech greenhouse farms, with four new regional salad greenhouse hubs breaking ground to begin opening in 2024. BrightFarms' fresh lettuce options, from classic greens to crunchy mixes and salad kits, are available in more than 3,700 retail stores across the East Coast and Midwest.
As a Corporate Grower, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the cultivation and production of lettuce within our advanced greenhouse facilities. You will be responsible for optimizing crop yields, ensuring product quality, and implementing innovative growing techniques to maximize efficiency and profitability. You will also be responsible for the training and development of the growing team.
Specifically, you will:
Manage all parameters related to the maintenance of healthy and productive production in ponds and mobile gutter systems (MGS). Parameters include nutrients and pH, temperature, aeration, sanitation, and grow system mechanics
Conduct root cause analyses of production issues and implement corrective actions
Optimize nutrient and irrigation strategy in MGS production systems including nutrient targets, irrigation schedules, and nutrition sampling protocols
Develop best-in-class grower education and development program ensuring that BrightFarms has highly skilled growers ready to support new facilities
Systemize and standardize growing strategies through establishing company-wide protocols and SOPs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure these standards meet Food Safety and Commercial requirements
Deliver products that are free of insect pests and disease
Partner with the Sr. Director of Agriculture and other growers to design, implement and track improvement projects that increase and optimize yields and quality
Ensure that semi-closed systems perform within established thresholds using greenhouse environmental control software (e.g., Priva, Hoogendorn, etc.) and create and optimize climate models using analytics platforms (e.g., LetsGrow or other proprietary systems) to optimize set points and ensure optimal conditions are achieved
Accountable for revenue, growing operating expenses, and quality of the greenhouse facilities. This includes production planning and reporting, plant performance, grower labor management, balancing inputs, and growing system maintenance
The ideal candidate:
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial production of plants using soilless culture in environmentally controlled greenhouses. Candidates must have experience in either semi-closed greenhouses or lettuce production in Mobile Gutter Systems (MGS)
Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of nutrient management and hydroponic nutrient solutions
At least 5 years of experience directly managing a team and at least 3 years of experience managing multiple facilities or multiple greenhouses within the same facility
Bachelor's Degree in horticulture and/or related sciences preferred
Working conditions/Environment/Travel/Schedule/Physical requirements
Up to 50% travel required
This position would require the ability to use hands/fingers, reaching with hands and arms, walking, standing, and sitting daily
Lifting to 25 pounds
