Position Overview:

The Corporate Development group is responsible for developing initiatives that will drive profitable growth and performance across the organization. The group reports to the CEO of the company and supports business development as well as mergers and acquisitions. In this highly visible role, you will have the opportunity to develop the long-range plans for the company and partner with the Senior Vice President of the function as well as a cross-functional team, to identify, evaluate and pursue potential mergers and acquisitions.

Essential Functions:

  • Work within the overall scope of the M&A strategy in identifying, assessing and evaluating new opportunities for mergers and acquisitions

  • Perform analysis on targets by gathering data, identifying most appropriate quantitative and qualitative analysis tools. Analysis is to include diligence and compiling models as well as providing key data on target analysis to enable investment appraisal

  • Build and maintaining a mergers and acquisition database

  • Participate in the creation and delivery of investment papers to the board

  • Assist with the preparation of investment papers to the board

  • Execute on all phases of assigned mergers and acquisitions initiatives, working with appropriate business areas as necessary, including:

  • Coordinating information requests to be sent to targets

  • Issuing and handling confidentiality letters

  • Assisting with the preparation of the commercial business plan

  • Building a financial model

  • Liaising with external due diligence providers

  • Liaising with legal advisors

  • Prepare and coordinate implementation plans

  • Provide post deal support on integration issues


  • Minimum of 6-7 years' experience in building relationships with business owners and senior managers in a big 4 accounting firm or investment banking, either as a consultant working with client teams or as an internal business partner

  • Education Requirements:
    BA/BS degree in business or related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage groups during presentations

  • Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment

  • Self-starter able to work independently and comfortable with interacting up, down and across the organization

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems

  • Able to comply with 50% business travel

  • Must have an ability to write reports and have a basic understanding of legal documents

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work, dynamic growth environment

  • Support and eventually lead large deals


  • Financial modeling experience (to support business cases, valuations, etc.)

  • Experience managing discrete work streams of a project

  • Excellent prioritization skills with a clear focus on results

  • Knowledge/experience with utility industry or state/local government

  • Advanced project management and leadership skills

Contribute to the development of and monitoring of performance progress toward strategic and operational organization & staff development plans. * Develop, source and/or leverage existing organizational development/learning programs, systems, & tools, provide direction/support to functional leaders, HR Business partners and staff enterprise-wide. * Create, assess or source learning solutions which effectively address staff and organizational needs through a variety of learning techniques (classroom, e-learning, blended learning, digital learning, gamification & micro-learning) fully leveraging existing and new technical learning platforms. * Provide support and guidance to senior management relative to the development and implementation of learning solutions, talent management initiatives, and leadership & organization development matters; assessing, planning and/or delivering training across the enterprise; and maintaining active follow-up through on-going support and coaching. * Proactively identify and support opportunities to positively impact organizational/cultural change and continuous improvement.
