The Corporate Development Manager is an expert in financial modeling and possesses strong strategic and analytical thinking skills in order to help drive the analysis of growth opportunities across Dick's Sporting Goods. As part of the Financial Planning and Analysis team, the corporate development manager will maintain a complex multi-year financial model to perform what-if scenario analyses. In addition, the manager will work cross-functionally with business partners, as well as with the senior leadership group, to evaluate acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, and organic business development opportunities. The manager will also be involved in various ad hoc projects. The position requires strong research, problem solving and conceptual thinking, and oral and written communication skills. The workload shifts frequently across job duties. Therefore, flexibility, perseverance, and comfort with ambiguity are requirements for success in this role.
The Role You'll Play:
Business Development Opportunities:
Work with banner and category leadership to support individual, as well as enterprise-wide, growth opportunities specific to each brand or focus category.
Perform initial financial modeling and analysis of business development opportunities including: generating financial statements, NPV calculations, and discounted cash flow analysis.
Long-term Financial Modeling:
Manage the long-term planning process and work within the finance organization and with various leaders across the business to gather information and build assumptions to support the financial model.
Consolidate all business area projections to produce total enterprise income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
Develop and present executive-level scenario analysis in support of long-term strategic discussions.
Utilize knowledge of financial interdependencies between income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement to develop or re-engineer modeling approaches to increase efficiency or support emerging business initiatives.
Acquisition & Investment Opportunity Evaluation:
Collaborate with senior leadership and external parties to evaluate potential acquisition candidates.
Create and maintain valuation models for acquisitions, joint ventures, or divestitures.
Perform discounted cash flow enterprise valuation and quantitative market analysis.
Synthesize insights into actionable strategic recommendations.
When applicable, support due diligence, development of comprehensive investment case, and execution of transaction.
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related business field
MBA highly preferred
Five to Seven years of experience
Three to five years of specific experience supporting: strategy, corporate development, business development, corporate strategic planning, investment banking, and/or management consulting
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience in retail, consumer products, apparel, or other customer-focused industries a plus
Experience and demonstrated success in presenting to executive-level audiences
Experience aligning and driving cross-functional groups; including the ability to build and maintain a network of relationships which facilitate deal flow
Self-starter who can excel in a fast-paced and fluid environment
Role may require mentorship and/or direct supervision of Financial Analysts or Rotational Program Associates
Requires focus amid rapidly shifting priorities, attention to detail, independent problem solving and adherence to tight deadlines when required
