Job Summary

PPL is searching for a highly organized and inclusive leader who will build on the strong financial foundation that has helped our organization grow and prosper. The Corporate Controller oversees accounting activities and processes of PPL's financial operations to assure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, strong internal controls, monthly consolidations, and annual audit requirements. This position has direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities for all accounting activities, including corporate and property accounting, accounts payable, tenant receivable staff, and our new centralized procurement function.

This position partners with the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to provide oversight to the 15-person financial management team. The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build and develop a high performing team. We are looking for an analytical problem-solver who is highly organized and deadline-oriented, focusing on delivering results for the department and organization. The ability to think strategically, exhibit cultural competency, and demonstrate strong ethical decision-making skills are a priority.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish, review, and optimize accounting policies, processes, and procedures that assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and internal control procedures that minimize the potential for errors and fraud.

  • Oversee the annual corporate, property, and single audit processes. This includes working with our auditors and PPL finance staff to establish and communicate required timelines, work schedules, and work paper deliverables; maintenance of necessary audit procedures and documentation; drafting of financial statements, footnotes, and supplemental schedules; recalculation of audited numbers for recertification of federal indirect cost rate.

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidation processes. This includes the establishment of accounting procedures that help assure that consolidations are completed in a timely manner, reports are accurate, and that the necessary standards are in place to maximize efficiencies.

  • Partner with the Director of FP&A to enhance a culture of innovation and collaboration that is dedicated to delivering quality financial reporting solutions, improving our internal control environment, supporting the needs of the business, and driving efficiency in our systems and processes.

  • Maintain the Chart of Accounts to ensure activity is properly recorded and accurately reported. Provide accounting review of monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.

  • Oversee daily cash management operations and prepare year-to-date cash flows and projections for the organization. Manage all day-to-day depository banking relationships.

  • Coordinate funding needs with development lenders and investors, manage banking relationships, and oversight of internal and external debt and investment portfolios.

  • Provide direct and indirect supervision of the Accounting team, including oversight of the accounts payable function and disbursement processes, as well as the centralized procurement function.

  • Provide support and, where necessary, report preparation for audits, requests, and inquiries conducted by funders, government agencies, and other third parties.

  • Assure that federal and state filings for taxes, year-end reports, and audits are delivered in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with the Director of FP&A on coordinating and producing all internal and external financial reporting, including the monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports and closings.

  • Oversee payroll processing in coordination with Human Resources.

  • Support current and future accounting systems and processes that create a clear vision and timeline, resulting in greater efficiency, improved controls, and alignment with company objectives.

  • Ensure that projects and deliverables are ready on a timely basis. Anticipate issues and proactively resolve and escalate any issues as needed.

  • Ability to adjust to new, different, or changing requirements while conveying a sense of urgency that drives issues to closure.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position currently supervises the Accounting Manager, AP Manager, Cash Accountant, and Procurement Manager. Supervisory responsibilities are flexible to meet the changing needs of the department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of multi-entity reconciliation and consolidation.

  • Proven ability to lead annual financial audit process.

  • Prior knowledge and experience in establishing and maintaining accounting policies, processes, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Knowledge and ability to effectively navigate various accounting software systems.

  • Ability to creatively problem-solve difficult accounting policy issues, procedures, and controls.

  • Willingness and commitment to fully engage in developing personal cultural competency.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external organizations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage staff to maximize employee engagement.

  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively under deadline pressures.

  • Excellent organization skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and see projects through to completion in a timely manner.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, including Excel, word, and PowerPoint.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in financial accounting, including a minimum of three (3) years of managerial or supervisory experience in accounting or finance. Experience with real estate finance and government grants preferred.

  • A certified public accountant with an active license is preferred.

  • Experience with Yardi and/or Sage Intacct software systems is a plus.

Salary: $110,000-$125,000 Yr., DOQ
