AN2 is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the overall financial operations and accounting practices of the Company, including accounting, financial reporting, treasury, planning, risk management and tax compliance. Major responsibilities include financial operations, oversight and compliance, risk assessment, policy and business planning and analysis. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining appropriate internal controls/systems, public company reporting processes (including 10-K, 10-Q, etc.) and Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") compliance. This position reports to the CFO and works closely with the senior management team and others throughout the organization, as well as with key external parties and advisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, etc.

  • Prepare Board and management internal financial reporting packages, including analytical review.

  • Prepare external financial statements in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations.

  • Lead the preparation of any required SEC documents, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, S-3, Section 16 reporting and any other financial filings.

  • Maintain internal and operational controls necessary to monitor performance and comply with SOX 404, as required.

  • Responsible for the planning function, including budgeting, forecasting and long range planning.

  • Perform various technical accounting analyses, including financial implications of proposed licensing and other contracts and transactions.

  • Oversee equity administration and stock-based compensation accounting under ASC 718. Having a strong understanding of different types of equity compensation structures and modifications is a plus.

  • Review clinical and CMC accruals with business partners.

  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors; prepare and coordinate all appropriate material for quarterly reviews and annual audits.

  • Oversee risk management and treasury management.

  • Coordinate tax compliance, including overseeing the preparation of tax returns and other required tax filings.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives, and other projects as determined.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in public and private accounting, with a preference for a Big 4 CPA.

  • Strong preference is to have at least 4 years experience directing financial operations and building teams within a growing pharmaceutical/biotech company,

  • Experience establishing accounting processes and internal controls; SOX 404 compliance experience also strongly preferred.

  • Strong technical expertise in the areas of SEC reporting and financial accounting; prior experience with public company reporting is required.

  • Must have excellent business judgment and possess strong leadership skills. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels of personnel, including senior management and non-financial staff.

  • Ability to think strategically and still maintain an attention to detail.

  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Familiar and comfortable working in a small, growing company, able to work remotely with all functions in the organization.

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with NetSuite a plus.

  • Education: BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Finance/Accounting or equivalent; CPA and/or MBA preferred.

AN2 anticipates that the annual base salary for this position could range from between $280,000 to $300,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate's credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered salary is also based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, and the position's wage range. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus and stock programs, various benefits offerings, including, but not limited to, medical, dental and vision insurance, disability, life insurance, 401k retirement savings plan, and flexible paid vacation.
