Department Profile:

The Corporate Communications team facilitates Morgan Stanley's communications with media audiences and with employees. For the firm as a whole and also for individual business units, it brings experience and consistency to our relationship with the press and our dialogue with employees.

Its goal is to promote Morgan Stanley's strengths and to build and maintain the firm's reputation. Corporate Communications issues press releases for the firm and its business units and helps provide Morgan Stanley spokespeople with access to the media. It may also advise clients during sensitive, high-profile transactions.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will serve as the coverage officer for developing and managing communications for the Investment Banking Division. He or she will partner with the division's management and bankers to highlight the strategy, capabilities and business success of IBD in the press and across digital channels.

He or she will handle coverage around transactions, at times managing a high volume of time-sensitive press calls. The Officer will work with colleagues in digital media and internal communications, and he or she will coordinate with IBD coverage officers in different regions. The person in the role will work closely with the press officer that works with Global Capital Markets and participate in those efforts when appropriate.


  • Design and execute communications strategy for the division with a focus on promoting key franchises across industries to external audiences through press and digital media channels

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships between relevant reporters and IBD leadership

  • Work closely with internal and digital strategy teams to develop content for the Firm's external and internal websites and digital platforms that support the communications goals for the division

  • Manage a steady volume of time-sensitive incoming media queries related to the business and specific transactions

  • Provide strategic communications support on transactions and announcements including drafting press releases, internal announcements and talking points

  • Manage high volume of press interaction around transactions sometimes handing issues as well as highly sensitive information

  • Coordinate closely with international colleagues and provide regular updates on activities to division management on global activity

Skills Required:

The Firm seeks a poised, self-confident, pro-active candidate with at least eight years of experience in managing media in the financial services sector. A high degree of familiarity with media outlets and reporters that focus the deal landscape, M&A and technology companies, as well as a track record of managing coverage around these types of transactions is preferred.

This candidate also must have a demonstrated ability of serving as a trusted advisor to clients and stakeholders as well as excellent communications skills. Finally, this candidate should have a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team -- making informed decisions in a complex and fast-paced environment.

We'll Trust You To:Devise and execute strategies to tell Bloomberg's global story as an innovator, a financial technology and information leader, an influential media brand and a company that drives impact through philanthropy. Collaborate regionally and globally across Bloomberg's External Relations function (encompassing Corporate Communications, Marketing, Government Relations, Philanthropy and Corporate Affairs) to communicate business and cultural initiatives that build belief in the Bloomberg brand. Manage editorial standards across digital channels and platforms for employee news, newsletters, planning, as well as maintaining the editorial voice across multiple channels both internal and external. Generate and assign original editorial content and manage an editorial calendar that supports departmental and company objectives. Spot and assign opportunities for editorial content across multimedia (photography, audio, video, text, etc) Measure success and report back to stakeholders. Understand and keep on top of internal company news, changes, executive, and strategic updates. Innovate and iterate on how communications is delivered to employees. You'll need to have:Excellent written, editorial and verbal communication skills. At least 7 years of related experience in corporate or employee communications, or as a newsroom or digital platforms editor. The ability to translate complex subjects into simple, impactful messages and narratives that translate across traditional and social media platforms. Strategic, creative thinking skills with an ability to tell stories and take complex and interesting subject matters to share with out employee population Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence persuade and inspire others. Experience leading diverse, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced corporate or newsroom environment. The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively and balance competing demands. Strong decision-making, prioritisation and project management skills. A critical eye for detail. A desire to succeed in a demanding, innovative and diverse environment. Working knowledge or multimedia production, social media platforms and digital newsletter creation.
