Job Description

Use Your Strengths at Wellmark as a Corporate Communications Manager!

Wellmark is seeking a Communications Manager to join our team and help tell our story to a variety of audiences, increasing awareness and understanding of how we are working to make health care better for Iowans and South Dakotans.

About the role: As part of Wellmark's Corporate Communications team, the Corporate Communications Manager - Strategic Initiatives will support creating and implementing communications strategies for Wellmark's strategic initiatives reaching across internal and external audiences.

This includes providing strategic consultation to executive leaders and cross-functional teams to communicate initiatives with a consistent narrative across a variety of channels using a planful approach. You will be expected to help identify performance measures and optimize activations to achieve success, foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders as a strategic communications partner, and collaborate across the Corporate Communications function and the organization to build and protect Wellmark's reputation.

About You: Ideal candidates are exceptional storytellers who can craft content strategies to motivate audiences to take action.

You are a natural collaborator and connector: you have a demonstrated history of building productive and meaningful relationships with people at all levels, from an internal peer to a senior leader to a media representative. Metrics are key to understanding performance, and you have a deep understanding of methods of measurement and how metrics can be used to shape a story. Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant area of study.

  • 4+ years of communications experience, preferably in the health care or insurance industry, including serving as a partner for senior leadership.

  • Excellent writing, content creation and editing skills in alignment with AP Style. Ability to produce engaging content for varying internal and external audiences.

  • Experience in creating communications plans with defined benchmarks, including gathering and analyzing data and creating reports to showcase performance impact to a business objective.

  • Strong problem-solving and attention to detail. Professional, polished and diplomatic in approach.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory and public policy process at state and federal level with experience in communicating business impacts

  • Effective consulting skills and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to develop relationships of collaboration and trust. Ability to give and take feedback in a constructive manner, and to foster cooperation and collaboration across teams.

  • Proactive self-starter with strong planning, time management, prioritization and organization skills. Adaptable and flexible with changing priorities. Ability to measure, evaluate and refine work processes and project elements in order to achieve organizational goals while maintaining customer and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Ability to stay up to speed on new trends and emerging platforms.

  • Proficiency utilizing the Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred:

  • 7+ years of internal communications experience is preferred, including serving as a partner for senior leadership.

Additional Information

a. Develop and refine communications strategies and tactics to drive awareness and engagement of key audiences.

b. Serve as a strategic consultant for leaders and cross-functional teams on how to best reach and engage employees to drive strategy-aligned behaviors as well as external audiences to drive business objectives.

c. Lead relationships with strategic initiative consultants, strategy owner stakeholders and compliance leaders, among others, to serve as a trusted strategic partner for corporate communications activations.

d. Think strategically and holistically to prioritize and connect initiatives and messages from across the organization using a planful, consistent approach.

f. Manage and prioritize multiple initiatives to deliver high-quality work on deadline.

g. Set benchmarks and measure performance to continually improve.

h. Understand Wellmark's products, services and business and be able to incorporate these into strategic communication plans.

i. Other duties as assigned.
