Position Overview:

The Corporate Communications Intern is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day maintenance of the company's internal communications channels and supporting the corporate communications team and business groups. The successful candidate will help educate, coach and train communicators across the organization on best practices associated with each platform and will ensure content published on the platform is engaging and compelling. This position will report to the Vice President, Corporate Communications.

This internship will have be part-time for the 2019-2020 school year.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists in managing the day-to-day monitoring of emPOWER, which includes responding to employee inquiries, helping businesses with posts, promoting brand advocacy, escalating issues for response and general site maintenance and upkeep.

  • Ensures content shared on internal channels is appropriate, properly branded, contains messaging tailored for the audience and channel as part of our communications strategy.

  • Creates highly engaging, properly branded graphics using Adobe Creative and Canva for internal channels including JOE, emPOWER and Eloqua newsletter builder.

  • Edits copy and creates engaging, branded media for internal marketing tactics including digital displays, brochures and digital communications channels.

  • Ensures alignment with and understanding of brand standards while fostering creativity.

  • Transfers best practices across the enterprise.

  • Provides general assistance for the Industrial Group and Electrical Group communications managers, including providing a wide variety of communications and digital design.

  • Supports planning and execution of internal communications campaigns.

Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements):

  • Actively enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in communications, public relations, English, journalism, graphic design or related field of study

  • Minimum GPA of a 3.0 (please do not round)

  • This position does not offer relocation. The candidate must reside within 50 miles of Beachwood, OH

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship on an on-going basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competence in Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

Highly organized, attention to detail and ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as with colleagues at all levels. Must be a self-starter and work independently and with a team. Must be able to work quickly under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects at once. Excellent written and verbal skills are required. Ability to set clear goals and execute projects from start to finish. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary as well as the ability to uphold a high degree of confidentiality and remain calm under pressure. Manages communications to supports institutional priorities, executive and special projects, and crisis communications. Manages and mentors the corporate communications team professionals. Researches, strategizes and garners media opportunities with a priority on national media. Primary Responsibilities: * Produces editorial content for Cleveland Clinic Employee Communications Department. * Works closely with key business and clinical departments to help lead internal communications strategy and communications to caregivers. * Conducts interviews and research for story development. * Plans, develops, writes and edits communication collateral for enterprise-wide priorities and events. * Produce content (write/edit) for all internal channels, including Intranet and enewsletters. * Work collaboratively with assigned institutes, media relations and marketing teams to produce stories that feature caregivers and/or major achievement, services, etc. * Write stories to promote events and summits. * Post articles to the Intranet using internal Content Management System, Photoshop and other software tools. * Create, write and post to intranet weekly polls and caregiver features. * Develop and execute strategic communication plans for key client areas, including annual plans as well as on a project-by-project basis, as needed. * Build relationships with key internal stakeholder groups relevant to each focus area, to further the reputation and key priorities. * Develop and maintains daily contact within areas of responsibility, as well as other internal stakeholders and collaborate with them on relevant projects/priorities. * Identify key opportunities to advance client department priorities through internal communications through various internal communication channels including intranets, newsletters, emails, manager communications, etc. Responsibilities: * Builds and fosters relationships with internal departments and national, international and local broadcast/print media. * Develops, writes and researches internal communications and press materials; news releases, media advisories, pitch letters and press kits. * Oversees and coordinates all national broadcast and print outreach or internal communications. * Develops messaging and trains/coaches key clinical and institutional spokespeople for external events and media interviews. * Manages corporate communications staff and develops annual key performance indicators for team members. * Other duties as assigned. Education: * Bachelor's Degree public relations, communications, journalism, or closely related field. * Master's Degree preferred. Certifications: * None required. Complexity of Work: * Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects at ones. * Must be able to work in a stressful environment. * Must be able to meet multiple weekly writing deadlines. Work Experience: * Minimum of seven years of Internal communications experience including experience in writing, editing, researching and preparing material for publication highly preferred * Proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as basic design and layout experience preferred * Minimum of seven years of media relations, public relations or communications experience with minimum of two years pitching or influencing national media outlets. * An additional six years of progressively responsible experience may offset degree requirement. Physical Requirements: * Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. * Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds. * May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting. * Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
