In this role, you will serve as the account executive for the largest and most complex commercial clients ($5mm to $30mm stand-alone C&I Credit or up to an approved relationship TCE Hold Limit) and maintain a "trusted advisor" relationship with clients based on knowledgeable advice that is aligned to the clients' business objectives and lifecycle. You will develop and grow new business and build/maintain strong relationships with prospects. In doing this, you will drive financial performance through profitable revenue and growth and quality credit.

Functions

  • Serve as the trusted advisor to clients, and function as the Commercial Banking client "expert" and the go-to-person for the largest and most complex clients.

  • Develop focused strategies for acquiring, retaining, and growing select clients.

  • Champion and lead all business development efforts for specific client and/or prospect base. Drive a focused business development effort by developing a clear and holistic understanding of the client's or prospect's business/industry. Partner with the client as a financial strategist and share a skilled financial perspective. Prepare for client reviews, identifying opportunities for presenting unsolicited solutions/advice. Provide the client with deep knowledge in key product areas.

  • Assemble and lead cross-functional team to quickly respond to customer request. Utilize team of experts to creatively present the full breadth of the bank.

  • Maintain active prospecting effort, including identification, qualification and calling. Consistently balance prospecting efforts and quality client maintenance responsibilities.

  • Maximize established referral network and continue to expand this network.

  • Proactively prospect for new clients and consistently balance quality client maintenance responsibilities.

  • Identify cross-sell opportunities and partners to structure, coordinate and sponsor credit and non-credit products/services.

  • Anticipate and solve internal obstacles for the client with a sense of urgency and consistently finds the right way to get things done for the client. Act as a client advocate while adhering to sound business practices.

  • Lead and drive a culture of creative and strategic thinking to arrive at multiple potential ways to achieve client goals.

  • Maximize profitability of assigned portfolio by effectively selling the value Umpqua provides.

  • Make decisions on loans and terms within established lending limits. Analyze credit to determine the ability of customers and prospective customers to qualify for ensuing borrowing requirements.

  • Follow-up on current loans to ensure compliance with internal procedures and other required terms.

  • Study industrial, commercial, economic and financial situations relating to new or existing business.

  • Demonstrate compliance with all bank regulations that apply to your position, and keep up to date on regulation changes.

  • Maintain working knowledge of our policies and procedures regarding the Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations that apply to your position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent experience; Master's Degree or MBA preferred.

  • 15+ years of relevant commercial lending experience and proven track record of exceeding performance in developing business in the commercial industry. 5+ year of high performance experience with clients with sales over $25 million preferred.

  • Proven track record of success and skills in developing new clients and business, including prospecting, sourcing and networking.

  • Experience working in relationship management teams with a proven understanding of the importance of balancing business development and asset quality.

  • Extensive knowledge of bank products.

  • Excellent relationship management and business development abilities, analytical and problem-solving skills, sales skills, and credit and credit quality skills.

  • Expert credit analysis and commercial underwriting skills, including accounting, financial statement and cash flow analysis experience.

  • Expert knowledge of commercial lending policies, procedures, practices and documentation.

  • Partners effectively with senior credit officers.

  • Thorough knowledge of bank's risk-rating system, credit products and underwriting policies. Exceptional working knowledge with structuring credit products to middle market business in diverse industries with complex ownership structures.

  • Experience with syndications, asset-based lending, capital structure finance, leveraged lending, enterprise value lending, and trade finance.

  • Experience with underwriting and/or managing Shared National Credits (SNC).

Manage the day-to-day business development functions of the credit union. Initiate contact with potential company or community businesses through visits, mailings, and phone calls. Maintain current relationships and grows business accounts through mailings, sign-ups, presentations, phones, and visits to business clients. Duties and Responsibilities: * Attain loan, deposit, and fee income goals by quickly and confidently differentiating the characteristics of a strong deal that should advance for full underwriting and a weak deal that should be denied. Develop and establish relationships with business owners in MCUs target markets through effective networking and recommending the most appropriate products, services, loan programs and solutions to meet their current and future business needs. * Be active, accessible and visible within the business community as a representative of MCU by delivering exceptional member service and product support. * Be present in the community to identify business prospects through networking, events, and referrals. * Partner with MCU staff in making business calls and servicing business members. * Assist and educate MCU staff on business loan guidelines, practices, and procedures. * Continuously develop new business opportunities through cold calls, in person contact, networking and market research. * Obtain, review, analyze and underwrite the financial situation of business prospects based on financial statements, tax returns, credit history, and business plans. Exhibit independent judgment when preparing a credit memo that is clear, concise, and focused with identified risks, valid mitigates, and precise and meaningful conclusions. Loan structures will have clear purpose, and solid primary and secondary repayment sources without dependence on collateral liquidation. Credit quality and risk mitigation is key. * Early in the process, develop a clear understanding of the request, the borrower and guarantors business and role, and any potential issues or concerns. * Take a leadership role in obtaining needed information and anticipating future needs to insure a smooth and timely process for both the customer and internal staff * Work effectively and productively with underwriter and operations, insuring clear understanding through focused and concise communication. * Gather and review information and documentation needed to complete a comprehensive evaluation and understanding of the opportunity. * Seek clarity from the client and internal staff, as appropriate such that needed information is obtained in a timely manner * Ensure all records and files are complete, comprehensive, and accurate, reflecting the loans approved. * Credit and documentation files are in order * All documentation and administrative activities are completed in a manner to ensure proper use of funds and perfected collateral positions. * Verify that loan documentation is consistent with conditions approved, complete, and properly executed. * Work with staff to ensure proper boarding, closing, funding, and servicing activities. * Demonstrate effective portfolio management through active and timely follow up of all required documents, reporting requirements, financial and non-financial covenants, administrative covenants and conditions of approval; taking appropriate and timely action, as needed including those situations in default. * Ensure ongoing, quality relationships by making regular site visits to the place of business, resulting in a thorough understanding of the business operations, competitive markets, its future direction and business strategy, and serving as a financial advisor for their success. * Assess, service, and facilitate their business and personal lending, deposit, and financial service's needs; identifying cross selling opportunities for additional products and services * Partner with business owners to extend Meriwest's products and services to their employees and their clients in order to expand their business and personal banking relationships. * Be responsive to internal and external requests, demonstrating solid and effective management of client portfolio responsibilities. * Demonstrate active problem loan prevention and recognition by taking appropriate and timely action as needed. This is evidenced by a clear understanding of all rules, regulations, federal and state laws, loan policies, guidance, and procedures; and regulatory advice and guidance to ensure compliance, and safety and soundness. Minimum Qualifications: * BA/BS degree in related field or equivalent experience or training. * 3‑5 years' experience in related position, full knowledge of business deposits, complex commercial and business loan underwriting, documentation preparation, funding, and applicable laws and regulations; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. * 3‑5 years' experience in outside sales and relationship business development. * 3‑5 years' experience in reviewing and understanding business and personal financial information and tax returns. * A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. * Outside contacts are essential, as is fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals). * Must be a self‑starter, with a strong drive to succeed and continually reach new goals. * Must have extensive experience in commercial real estate lending. * Must be a team player who can operate both within a group and independently with minimal supervision. * Make effective group and individual sales presentations. * Full knowledge of credit union products and services in to order cross‑sell business and personal financial products and services. * Intermediate or above level of experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
