The Automobile Club of Southern California, founded in 1900, is the nation's largest AAA-affiliated motor club, serving millions of members in twenty-one states. We are seeking a corporate transactional attorney with 4 years of experience for our corporate legal department. The successful candidate will support various corporate and commercial transactions, review, negotiate and draft a wide variety of contracts, advise management on the legal implications of proposed actions and policies, and assist in board and corporate governance matters. Experience in mergers and acquisitions and complex organizational structures preferred. The successful candidate will join our 20 lawyers in the corporate legal department as Corporate Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel, located in Costa Mesa, California.


  • Member of the California State Bar.

  • Excellent academic credentials and top law firm and/or in-house experience are required.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex contract interpretations and applicability of relevant law, strong writing, presentation, organization and project management skills required.

  • Successful completion of Auto Club pre-employment assessment, background and drug screenings.

As a Human Resources and Attorney Recruitment & Development Assistant at Latham, you will provide support to the Human Resources department and the office. You will be responsible for making accurate entries in the firm's human resources databases. The Assistant will also provide assistance to attorneys, paralegals and staff by using available resources to provide answers to their human resources questions. The position also provides support to the Attorney Recruitment & Development department by organizing and expediting workflow in connection with all phases of attorney recruitment and development processes while accomplishing these and other critical functions: * Entering data in the HR Information System (PeopleSoft) and Latham Facebook regarding employee changes in the office, including new hire entries, leaves of absence, promotions, transfers, and terminations. * Assisting with policy distributions (e.g., new hire policies, annual Restricted Securities List compliance) by collecting and tracking signed policies as they are received from employees. * Coordinating and assisting with new hire orientation by distributing and collecting tax forms, policies, and other paperwork. * Answering routine questions from attorneys, paralegals and staff and resolving issues independently. Using appropriate judgment to route non-routine questions and issues to appropriate resources and follow-up to ensure the issue is resolved in a timely manner. * Tracking the employee referral bonus program and seniority recognition bonus program for the office. Processing and routing appropriate forms to the payroll department. * Assisting with benefits administration and the firm's Wellness Program. * Assisting the Attorney Recruitment & Development Department with the coordination and execution of all attorney development, onboarding, training, and integration efforts in the office. * Assisting with all phases of the recruitment process including new hires, lateral hires, and summer associates. * Assisting local departments and practice groups with various events, receptions, and dinners. * Assisting in planning and coordinating the Summer Associate program and social activities. As a Human Resources and Attorney Recruitment & Development Assistant, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Human Resources and Attorney Recruitment & Development Assistant must have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines, and attention to detail for all projects as well as keeping the bigger picture as the common end-goal. The ideal Assistant must display the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm, the ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion. An ideal candidate will possess knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, with relevant work experience preferred but not required.
