Job summary

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented commercial real estate lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel - Real Estate supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the "cloud" computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, and more.

Key job responsibilities

As part of the AWS real estate legal team, you will be responsible for supporting AWS's worldwide data center expansion through land acquisitions and leasing. You will have transactional drafting and negotiating responsibilities on deals, and will provide legal counsel and contract interpretation to business team members on a daily basis. Transactions range from standard contracts to complex, bespoke, high value agreements. You will structure, draft and negotiate agreements, help support AWS real estate's existing portfolio, manage outside counsel, and advise internal business clients. In addition, you will help develop, implement, and manage process improvements across the team, resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Competitive salary based on experience and includes equity compensation.

This position is located in Santa Monica, CA; New York, New York; or Arlington, Virginia.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. degree (or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • 6+ full years of legal experience as a transactional real estate attorney (with 3+ full years at a law firm)
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a variety of real estate transactional documents (i.e. leases, lease amendments, purchase and sale agreements, easements, etc.)

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication, and client interaction skills

This role will also participate in other Amazon Web Services legal projects, including negotiating and drafting strategic agreements and managing legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships. About the team You will be joining a fast-paced, tightly-knit, and diverse legal team that delights in innovating and simplifying for its business customers. As part of the team you will participate in team-wide meetings, departmental goals, and collaborative projects. In this role, you will have access and visibility with senior leadership while at the same time you will be relied upon as a mentor to more junior members. We are also truly a coast-to-coast team, with members in Seattle, HQ2, New York, and Santa Monica. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications * Juris Doctor (J.D.) and membership in at least one state bar or equivalent. * 5+ years of legal experience.
