Compensation: $55,000-$70,000

Job Summary

The Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) Creative Arts concentration seeks a full-time core faculty position beginning July 1, 2024. This position will be located with the concentration with responsibilities to teach professional counseling in the Clinical Mental related art therapy and courses. Two years of clinical experience, demonstrated ability to teach across the graduate Clinical Mental Health curriculum; one to two years teaching experience a demonstrated capacity to conduct research or creative works is essential.

In addition to research and creative works, applicants would be able to teach in some of the following areas: group dynamics and leadership, counseling and helping relationships, professional counseling orientation and ethical practice, social and cultural foundations, assessment, research methods, career counseling, or diagnostic and treatment planning, field placement supervision. The position includes administrative duties for the concentration, GSCP, and the university, including but not limited to recruitment and admissions interview days, student review and feedback, identity as a professional counselor, assessment, and active engagement in the Creative Arts concentration.

Qualified applicants must demonstrate consistent success in negotiating the pedagogical, clinical, research, administrative, and collaborative responsibilities of a faculty appointment within the degree program, within the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology and within the structure of the university at large.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 20 credits per year or equivalent combination of teaching and administrative duties

  • Participate in programmatic administrative duties

  • Identify and actively pursue a research and or creative works agenda

  • Hold weekly office hours to meet with students and prospective students

  • Collaborate with concentration and GSCP faculty in curriculum development and assessment

  • Serve as a mentor to students in the programs

  • Participation in admissions recruitment and marketing efforts; support and retention of students (including interviewing prospective students), marketing, and other program tasks

  • Attend University-wide faculty meetings and serve on faculty committees as appointed

  • Willingness to serve in the rotation of concentration chair

  • Participation in the Community Art Studio as determined by the concentration chair

  • Pursue professional development in professional counseling (trainings, research, creative works, writing, presentations) and as a professional counselor

  • Engage in continuing development in contemplative practice and education and diversity and sustainability awareness

  • Understand and adhere to the policies, procedures, and protocols outlined in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks

  • Other duties as assigned

What We Require

  • A doctoral degree in counseling or a related field such as expressive therapies from an accredited graduate institution.

  • At least two years of clinical experience.

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado at the professional counselor (LPC) or equivalent level.

  • Either previous experience or interest to learn the literature and practices of contemplative education.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, administrative skills, a collaborative style, the capacity to teach a diverse student body, varied therapeutic experience, and a comprehensive understanding of art therapy and the transpersonal counseling field.

  • Development or demonstration of scholarly works such as research, creative works, professional presentations, and publications.

  • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.

  • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and on-going self-examination.

  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of and appreciation for the values of Naropa University and the capacity to demonstrate an integration and embodiment of these values as evidenced in work, communication, collaboration styles, and other general workplace behaviors.

Educational degree/diploma required:

  • A doctoral degree in counseling or a related field such as expressive therapies from an accredited graduate institution.

Minimum length of prior relevant professional experience required:

  • Two years clinical counseling experience

  • Two years teaching with a focus on art therapy curriculum

(PLEASE NOTE: each applicant's experience and demonstrated skills are assessed on a case-by-case basis as to their relevancy to the position applied for as well as whether they may substitute for required degree.)

Professional license(s)/certification(s) required:

  • Licensed or licensed eligible in the State of Colorado as a LPC.

What We Prefer

  • Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited program or a doctoral degree in counseling or a related field such as expressive therapies from an accredited graduate institution AND 1 year of full-time teaching experience including or prior to the 2013-2014 academic year, in a graduate level counseling program.

  • Awareness of and interest in transpersonal counseling.

  • Direct experience with the literature and practices of contemplative education.

  • Significant evidence of scholarly work such as professional presentations, publications, creative works and/or a demonstrated interest in research.

  • Demonstrated record of exceptional institutional service and worked in leadership roles at a university.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:

  • In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a graduate assistant, you may spend extended periods time with any of the following:

  • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.

  • Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.

  • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.

  • Moving around campus for classes and meetings.

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa's retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
