LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking an individual to join our team as a Cord Blood Collection Specialist in Birmingham, AL. This position is responsible for duties related to cord blood education, consenting and training. Routine interactions with collection facility's staff and the general public regarding cord blood collections and donations is a fundamental aspect of this position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Read and review medical history questionnaires and informed consent paperwork with cord blood donors and defer those who do not meet approved medical criteria for donating cord blood

  • Train hospital staff to collect cord blood and to perform LifeCord procedures. This includes training OB/GYNs and CNMs on collection techniques and exclusion criteria and labor & delivery nursing staff on procedures related to recruiting cord blood donors, labeling CBUs and tubes appropriately, exclusion criteria and procedures for collecting cord blood

  • Ensure collected cord blood units and supplies used for collection are stored and shipped properly

  • Maintain stock of supplies essential to job function

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with collection facility's staff

  • Represent and communicate LifeCord and LifeSouth favorably to the public and participating institutions

  • Cross train with the Donor Services department to perform donor registration, interviews and physicals

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid driver's license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills

  • Positive and outgoing attitude with excellent customer service skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Associate's degree

  • Experience in cord blood processing/research, cellular therapy and/or a medical laboratory

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

This is a full-time position. Starting salary range is $12.00 - $13.20 an hour. Background check and drug test required. Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer/DFWP/Tobacco Free.
