Coral Youth Activity Assistant (Per Diem, As Needed)

Status: Per Diem/As Needed (up to 24 hours per week)

OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM:

The CORAL after school program has achieved a decade of success with increased literacy rates and a reduction in the achievement gap for tens of thousands of at-risk students in San Jose's highest poverty and lowest performing schools. CORAL utilizes a research-based, education pathway strategy that is holistic, targeted and consistent-charting progress from pre-K through middle school-and making a difference in 2,000 young lives each day. CORAL has 30-40 AVAILABLE POSITIONS each year.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Activity Assistant is a CORAL After School Instructor (CASI) in training. This staff member will work side by side with CASIs and the Site Manager and other staff to provide enrichment and engagement with youth, from TK - 8th grade. This position is on as needed basis and includes working non-traditional hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide recreational, care and quality learning experiences for school age children from TK- 8th grade

• Support in the implementation and development of appropriate learning environments to all children and inclusive of children with special needs

• Attend professional trainings offered through Catholic Charities

• In collaboration with the Site Manager, develop a flexible, non-traditional work schedule

• Learn and implement adaptive methods and strategies for working with all children

• Work in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner with families from diverse backgrounds

• Plan and prepare materials/curriculum to ensure quality early learning experiences

• Provide input for program planning and development

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Complete all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Clearance of fingerprint background check

• Must have valid TB (Tuberculosis) screening, and

• Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster(s) status

• Applicants must be able to work a flexible schedule (i.e. after school hours) with support of the Site Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Fast paced, diverse and dynamic environment

• The work is sometimes physical, requiring setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting cumbersome materials (i.e., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables)

• Must be able to report to service site on a regular and reliable basis

• Able to deal with stressful situations, uncertainties, change with a positive lense and

• Able to travel between sites and to offsite events throughout the county, as appropriate

• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• Works inside & outside including motor vehicle travel between sites.
