The Copywriter will develop strategic and impactful messages that position Macy's as America's fashion destination. Through mastery of our distinctive voice, they will strengthen the Macy's brand, bringing our fashion, our brands and trends to life in an authentic and approachable style that engages customers equally in social, digital and traditional media.
The Copywriter collaborates closely with designers and marketers within the Marketing department, as well as the Production and Project Management teams. Depending on the project, the Copywriter may also work with cross-functional partners in Marketing, Design, Legal and Corporate Communications to ensure an optimal customer experience. Copywriter will also perform other duties as assigned.
Writes clear and concise copy that embodies the voice of Macy's brand, ensuring consistency throughout campaigns and related collateral assets.
Writes compelling headlines, long- and short-form copy based on marketing insights, channel nuance, previous successes, research and legal requirements.
Takes the lead in writing, editing and proofing all packaging copy.
Know what's cool vs. clich, and have a knack for storytelling and conversational writing.
Effectively interprets and adapts information for each initiative, including creative briefs, merchant input, Merchandise Information Sheets, and other supporting documents.
Proactively seeks effectiveness in advertising by researching and understanding the needs of our customers.
Researches competitors' ads and campaigns, vendors and customer feedback.
Collaborates with Design and Marketing partners to create synergy and integration in concept development as well as in execution across all marketing channels.
Communicate with Product Integrity team for accuracy in packaging claims.
Plans, prioritizes and organizes a high volume of work effectively to meet deadlines.
Ensures marketing objectives have been met within creative guidelines, and that work requires little or no revisions.
Self-edits to deliver work that meets the highest standards of creative and technical quality.
Proofreads Private Brand and digital assets for accuracy.
Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
3-5 years of advertising copywriting experience, preferably including retail and/or fashion editorial experience.
Portfolio demonstrating strategic and creative strength.
Competition- and industry-aware; knows what others are doing in all media types and in stores, and can adapt learnings.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.
Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.
